Detroit Free Press--A video of Michigan rocker Ted Nugent on stage, yelling profanities about Democratic presidential candidates Barak Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton, was watched nearly 110,000 times in the first two hours after it was posted Friday, LiveLeak.com reported.
The 59-second video shows Nugent brandishing what appear to be a riflles or assault weapons and yelling profanities about Obama, the U.S. senator from Illinois, and Clinton, the former first lady and U.S. senator from New York...[more]
...is a candidate different than a sitting president - regardless of political party?
I don't know, but I would suspect that some people may make a distinction...
However, if he was threatening sitting elected officials, that's not good.
No, the response to the Dixie Chicks will be completely different than that to Ted Nugent simply because the constituencies of the two performers decide whether or not blacklisting occurs. In the case of the Dixie Chicks, their fans are largely conservative (whether they vote D or R doesn't matter) and were repulsed by their words. Therefore, they spoke with their wallets and refused to buy their CD or listen to their music on the radio. In the case of Nugent the fans are more conservative than the Dixie Chicks' fans were. What Nugent said won't offend his fan group, so they won't be involved in a boycott at all. In fact, they may actually increase their support of him. Look at Rosie O'Donnell's past words and actions for proof. Rosie has said things very similar to the Dixie Chicks and Ted Nugent, and her popularity seems to not have been hurt at all. That's simply because Rosie's fans are largely liberal, and they are not offended by her words.
What Ted said on stage was totally uncalled for and should not have been said.
To hold up a gun and say "Hillary, Suck on the end of this" just should not be done.
Will rock stations ban him?? How much play does he get anyway? I would imagine the country station ban came from fan's calling in and bitching about them playing the Chicks' music - will Ted's fans do that? I dont think so.
That still doesnt make it right - Liberal or Conservative, that kind of talk is not needed.
I remember wing nuts all over the South were having Dixie Chick burning parties. It was like Germany in the late 30's.
What the Dixie Chicks said verses what Nugent are on a whole different level.
All Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks said was "Just so you know, we
He hasn't recorded anything worthwhile since the days of the Amboy Dukes, almost forty freaking years ago...
Ted was just flat out out of line. What he suggested for hillary is a damn poor way to treat a fine firearm.
saying right on. and then I read through to the end and almost fell over :) That was just mean, mean, mean :)
Funny article on Nugent wetting his pants to avoid the draft:
...when it was time to register for the draft during the Vietnam era. By his own admission, Nugent stopped all forms of personal hygiene for a month and showed up for his draft board physical in pants caked with his own urine and feces, winning a deferment.
Well, I guess no one ever called him a hero!
And, I'm not surprised in the slightest.
if entertainers would just do what their suppose to do and entertain us. I'm a U2 fan, but I get tired of hearing Bono talk about saving the world all the time. They should all keep their political views to themselves when people are paying to see them
Heyhey, I was referring to blacklisting by radio stations. Not by consumers refusing to buy or listen to music.
God knows how many albums throughout his life, they've only played two songs by him throughout all the years anyway, so what would it matter? ("Cat Scratch Fever" & "The Great White Buffalo")

I disagree. Clear Channel stations play the music of artists that have said things far worse than what the Dixie Chicks said regarding the President (Kanye West is just one example). If Clear Channel banned all artists on all their stations that said something like that then I would agree with you, but they don't. The difference was that the listening audience of country music is different from that of a top 20 station or rock station. It also doesn't explain why so many independent radio stations refused to play their music too. At the root of the Dixie Chick boycott was the listeners.
but very funny!
Amen Kooz, Amen.

Clear Channel had a ton time and money invested into Kanye West. As a matter of fact only a few days before West went off live on NBC, Clear Channel had just released a big promo with him.

Cumulus Media out right band the playing of Dixie Chicks.
I remember him with the Amboy Dukes.
"Journey to the Center of The Mind."
They still play that, now and then.
The Motor City Mad Man earns his name - "Motor City Mad Man"
Not as good as Bob Seeger, but hey! - Who is?

I'm the Jack that your friends say you don't know.
I'd forgotten he was with them, thanks! That's the other one they play.
