Standing before state lawmakers in a packed budget hearing, 8-year-old Faith James covered her eyes when her mother broke into tears.
"I beg you, academics aside, for my daughter's safety. Please," Dana Watters-James implored, urging them to restore a tax-funded voucher program that would pay her daughter's tuition to private school in the fall.
