Toledo Board of Education approves a Million dollars in MOUs

Ever wonder how TPS spends your money? Well, thanks to Darlene Fisher and the Urban Coalition you can now review the memorandums of understanding (MOUs) yourself. Procedural changes as recommended by the Coalition has resulted in board review and approval. Prior to 8/21/07, MOUs were never approved by the board even though these actions resulted in spending taxpayer dollars due to changes (MOUs) to the collective bargaining agreements with TPS.

You can read all about it at TPSINFO.COM. We also have a summary and each individual MOU including their economic impact statement. Some of the items are interesting. It also looks like this district is paying for a lot of personnel directing the building program through the general fund. It does make one wonder if the bond issue passed in 2002 was well planned! Why would any expenses for the building program be paid from the general fund thus depriving the district of funds for teachers, textbooks, etc.?

Thanks, Steve!

Being able to edit the spreadsheet would make analysis of the MOUs much easier. Excel 2007 has great tools for visualizing data, but I don't want to fat finger the data during reentry. Thanks.

Also, is this info released by TPS or do you have to FOIA it?

It is a printed copy of the spreadsheet. I don't have the original spreadsheet (was not provided in electronic form). But I do agree with you about being able to manipulate the data. In the future, I'll try to get it in that form.
