...it will make much difference. Those who believe that there is "fluff" in the budget don't trust the figures that are being offerred. I think they will still vote against the 3/4% renewal. And I also believe that many will vote against it in November. We are spiraling down to disaster, but I doubt that much can be done against it. If Carty had been recalled, and his successor had contnued to have the same budget problems that the electorate might have voted for a renewal. But there is now too much distrust for anything but a true debacle to change the electorate's mind.
Exactly! Once the public trust has been betrayed to the point it has been, they could be deadly accurate and still miss. I think the messege here is quite clear, change or be changed. The status quo has got up and gone... it's time to re-invent the wheel here and even with some hesitation re: the schools(7), I think both will go down in March and perhaps, the schools will recover our trust by the fall. The messege to the Administration and the establishment however is far more stern: Since you refuse to change tactics and do the right thing, since you have stood in imperialistic roles while the barn doors were blown off and the stock took flight, since you have embarassed yourselves and Toledo on the whole worldwide, since there is only this option left, the people will speak in a launguage you may understand...by virtue of the vote, we can and we just may effectivley freeze the bank accounts., draw a line in the sand to stop the waste and the cart before the horse mentality.
If it can be done, this is as sure a vote of no confidence as we can do. It says a lot that after all these years Toledoans may be willing to go without and deal with the threats of the leadership to say enough is enough. It speaks volumes as to the tough minded desires of the newer generations and the folks that have endured the losses thus far, 82,000 people have fled Toledo, just as many jobs no doubt and the majority of the self-sustaining wealth.
Recently, I have taken time to speak with teenagers and 20somethings about their feelings about Toledo. What makes a person flash into the moment is when 9 out of 10 students are planning to leave Toledo as soon as they graduate. There is no 2nd plan of a return on their minds.
Sad to see such a stubborn person as Finkbeiner taking the city to the bottom of the sea, but que sera sera.
Bring on the Receivership, and let's get it behind us.
Nowhere but up from here.
Wonder if the power is vested in the Receiver to cut in half the exorbitant sum of $136,000 per year that Finkbeiner is hi-jacking the city for.
What a worthless turd he is.
...the mayor's expenditure for flowers to "beautify" Toledo. How much more did the mayor's administration buy than occurred during the previous administration. Is anyone in the city administration able to document this? This is a sore point for many people when they talk about the budget.
... for a good overview of our population collapse. Were at the year 1950 and falling. I'm not sure where we'll bottom out ... it could be the year 1920 with another 20% loss.
