It's 10 AM, and I'm getting antsy. When my garbage was collected on Wednesdays I would heard the garbage truck wheezing up (hydralics?) between 8:00 and 8:30 AM, and I would get up to make sure the garbage men didn't leave busted bags in their wake (maybe once did I have a complaint). When I saw that we were changing to Monday collection it was just another thing to remember. On the positive side I think it will be easier to remember to put out the garbage Sunday evening (my neighbor, a woman who "barhops", likes the schedule because she's likely to be here Sunday evening rather than Tuesday evening).
But now I am waiting for the recycling to come so I can get my containers in out of the street after he leaves. When I arose at 8:00 AM this morning I decided to see if the automated trash collectors were working south of Prouty. I listened for the sound of the "guns" (or in this case hydraulics), but never saw any of the new containers out along Broadway between Prouty and Stebbins, or along Sebbins, or Prouty to Thayer. I guess I must have looked at the new maps wrong.
Anyone see the new trucks, and have they left any damaged cars in their wake?
would you like someone to remind you to take your garbage out on Mondays and not Wednesdays. :) maybe we can stick something to your forehead to help you. :) sounds like you are having an exciting day waiting for the g men. :)
The trash still lines the streets at 11:00 AM. Now I know what most people deal with when you're not at the beginning of the route. Our trash guys usually set any containers in the street to be run-over by people parking their cars. They were too busy collecting garbage to put the containers off the street.
by all means olsdouthendbirdy keep us updated on the g men. :) the minute you see them let us know, we need to know theses things. :)
...and the recycling (a regular garbage truck) at 1:00 PM. Apparently, some of the recyling trucks are broken down. A little after the recycling was picked up a new, white truck (like a "dwarf" garbage truck) came down the street like the guy was looking for something. May be a new recycling truck, but no boom on the sides. No decals so they may have sent it out to get the job done. Someone said they're using the new automated trucks over on Barkley Place (about a half-mile west of my home).
The trashmen did some extra things today: they left no one's garbage can out in the road, but put them between the curb and the sidewalk (guess they're trying to appease the peasants), and I saw one fellow take two gallon recyclables out of a garbage can (a neighbor who refuses to recycle), and put them into another neighbor's recycling container (for when the truck came). I'm kind of ambivalent about this.
I believe in recycling, but I also believe in the a politically right-wing man's (which this fellow is) right not to. Maybe the garbagemen shouldn't take so much on themselves. As Voltaire might have said "I don't believe in trashing the planet, but I'll defend to the death your right to trash it!"
... sympathy strikes that other unionized workers are conducting to show solidarity with their trash-collector brethren. Maybe I'm just too busy to have noticed?
...Woodville, and Oakdale. Most hadn't been collected yet at 4:15 PM. Maybe the drivers are just beginning to feel comfortable with their new rigs. Wonder if there was any overtime today with the automated routes.
