I came to the conclusion a long time ago, that no matter who is elected president or mayor, regardless if you voted for the person or not - within 2 years everybody's bitching about the elected person & blaming the elected person for everything wrong in the world. I've also noticed that at that 2 year disillusionment mark, many people who voted for that person won't even admit it. I voted for Ford, Bush, & Carty 2 times - and regretted Ford deeply, and am disappointed with Bush, and mildly disappointed in Carty (because I knew going into a vote for Carty what his personality was - no surprises.) I get furious & saddened with many Bush related events (or non-events) - but know in my heart that he is still far better than a Gore or Clinton would have been. And I still trust him more with this country than I would for most of those planning to run for president. If Carty ran next election against Ford - I'd still vote for Carty.

For all the bitching about Carty..he's still holding a 74% retention lead. Granted, it's only 27 votes so far..but it looks like the complaint department isn't as strong as they claim.
and, in case anyone needs reminded I said it-the ONLY REASON this asshole got in again was PRECISELY BECAUSE he was running against Ford-Block's hand-picked puppet, who would probably have destroyed the town a decade or so earlier than it's going to anyway, had he stayed in office (yes, yes, I know-block/the rag 'endorsed' Kest-AFTER they'd destroyed him-just so he couldn't ever file a lawsuit for costing him the election). I myself voted for the lying ba$^%#d (he and his since-MIA wife claiming this was 'a new Carty'), knowing they were lying, just as a vote AGAINST Ford/the Blade. I'll probably never do that again, but it would depend on the candidates, I guess.

So true..so true. It's sad to me but I voted against Ford more than I voted for Carty. Not that I carry the bitter hate for him so do, I just wonder if he shouldn't change direction some since so many are none too happy? If I were in his shoes, I'd start listening to the "people " a lil more, and relpace my advisors with some common sense people that actually understand the issues facing Toledo.
Personally, I kinda like ole' Carty. He's interesting, driven and passionate about a great deal. I don't always agree with his decisions, but I respect his success(of which there are many) and he can't be all bad because he's been the choice 3 times. Even if the last was more a split decision..he still won by a landslide.
If nothing else, this is an excellent time to pay attention and figure out where to go next. Thanks for all the comments.
I didn't think he should resign but now I'm hearing this stuff about him punching someone. IF he actually did it then yes, I'd think it was time for him to step down. If his temper is so out of control he's hitting people then he's not who I want running my city.
Guess that means my position on the poll is the choice not given of Maybe

I did the poll for several reasons.
To see where support really is in terms of Carty.
To prove that lip service is useless without action.
To the check the "Spines" of the public at large.
To see reasons behind a vote either way.
To guage the impact of media, gossip and ridicule.
There was a simple reason for the yes/no only format. It doesn't matter what rational anyone may have, it's a simple question. Leaving a "Maybe" choice is to allow appathy to continue. In the world we live in there are absolutes. We, as citizens cannot allow ourselves to become appathetic or take our eyes off the ball for even one second. There's is no margin for error these days and everything is impactual.
We all need to know all that we can to make sound judgement in the future. There is no sideline from which to watch. Like it or not, we are all participants in the scheme of Toledo. Everything done, said and inacted is going to one way or another, effect us all. You are either a part of the problem or a part of the solution. There is no nutrality. Just because an individual doesn't care, doesn't mean their act of not caring isn't affecting the outcomes of the issues.
Anyone can sit home bitching and complaining, but unless you put your mind and money where your mouth is..you are useless to the advancement of Toledo. Idle chatter is just that. Action and understanding are key to advancement..period!
Not everyone is able to go out after the dragon..but everyone is capable of knowing who is and then supporting them.
Carty has been blessed with some opponents that don't exactly generate a lot of excitement. Anyone wonder how different Toledo might be had Mike Ferner scraped together a few hundred more votes?
this egomaniac would ever resign for ANY reason(to save toledo misery/division/suffering/discord,embarresment, whatever), they need their head examined. He's worse than Clinton in that respect.

ever since the Blade (under J.R.'s dad's regime) assassinated Pamela Daoust's campaign for Mayor way back when. That was the first time I noticed how it controlled toledo and brainwashed people. They had front page stories on some scandal her husband was involved in every day for several months before the election. I'll never forget it.

I remember hearing plenty of people saying in the past that the choices were sad. Presentation can be everything. I think a lot of candidates would benifit greatly from PR that knows PR. It wouldn't hurt if they could come close to matching the passion exuded by the Mayor.
I'm not so interested in persona as I am in substance. I look past the cameras and press releases. I look into their whole plan of action and compare it to other ideas I've seen work for other communities. I look at the sincerity and the common sense factors and try to leave the issues brought out my bias media, and all media is bias..don't kid yourselves. Some try to be more fair than others, but not when it comes to politics.
Society in general seems mired in what is sensational and scandlous rather than working to understand the debth and bredth of a situation, the contenders and the action required. One of the worst things I've noticed is that Toledoans appear so appathetic, very self centered and short sighted. It's bad enough that the "City" doesn't function properly, but when the Citizens give up and don't get involved..it's a crime against everyone. It's deriliction of your duty as bound by our freedom. Not to mention the scars will be felt by your great grandchildren.
The "ME,ME, ME generation is now going to have to step aside so we that think sensibly can fix the mess that has been created. It took over 30 years to hit this level, and it will take 5-7 years to get out of it. The longer we wait to start, the longer it will take and the more it will cost.
Thoughts on this are avaiable on my blog
