Did the Toledo Public School Board just admit they're racists?

Is the Toledo Public School Board racists?

Did they just admit it?

It's been discussed several times on this board ad nauseaum with school funding, programs, parent-teacher involvement, and charter schools however the news that hit this morning may have finally answered that question.

For those who haven't been watching the current events may have been shocked, disgusted and even appaulled when they heard the following....

Original Intent Of The U.S. Constitution?

I hear people, usually so-called conservatives, mention the original intent of the U.S. Constitution. According to my last reading of the Constitution it originally called for some things which are not in fashion at this time. It allowed slavery but not the importation of people to be slaves after 1808. White males over the age of 21 were allowed to vote, meaning no women, or minorities were allowed to vote. That would preclude 3 of our current Supreme Court justices from holding their seats. Actually 4 counting Clarence Thomas since he is black on the outside.

How much should teachers be paid?

I am curious what others think about this. With TPS in a budgetary crisis, a lot of talk recently about public pensions, and the beginning of a new school year fast approaching, I wonder what the general public thinks the average teacher salary should be. Consider a Toledo Public Teacher $40, $60, $80? More? Less?

Outpouring of Support??

So, after watching all of the TPS School Board meetings during the month of March, I have a question/thought. Will all of the people who showed up at the public meetings, meetings which were highlighted in all of the media and “live streamed” so that they could be viewed at home, will all of these people actually turn out to vote and support their cause? Their cause could be either for or against. We see a lot of dissent against various changes, positions, taxes, levy’s, etc. – virtually anything going on, by groups that are against them.

With houses underwater... has anyone else had a hard time switching house ins. companies?

Our house insurance went up again.. and this is before I add on the lovely flood insurance I have to carry. So I started calling around to get rates but the three companies I put our info online said that they would not write a policy due to replacement costs being so much higher than the homes value. So very frustrated right now.

How many people are in the Toledo Olympic blackout?

My view of the Olympics this year:

I don't live that far from NBC 24, but for some reason most of the year NBC 24 is not available over the air for me. I am not a subscriber to cable or any other TV provider and have been content with over the air and Internet, especially of lately. Hulu has made it so that it really does not bother me missing my favorite NBC shows on NBC 24, but the Olympics have made me notice how their lousy signal has the possibility of making me miss some important moments. Driving directions to NBC 24 say it is only 5.1 miles away and I am sure a digital signal does not have to travel that far given DTV signals travel in a straight line. I can't believe that NBC 24's digital signal can't travel more than 5 miles (at the most). NBC's Web site says they will be streaming some events live. I hope they will stream the good events live on their Web site and not purposely neuter the Web streaming to help the local affiliates, because in Toledo I am sure other people like me, will shudder having to watch a black screen when the marque events happen.

Honoring Robert Brundage

There is a group of people coming up with ways to honor Robert Brundage and this is your opportunity to help out.

Facilitated by the Board of Community Relations, a group of individuals met Feb. 10 to discuss ways to honor the late Robert Brundage.
The group hopes to capture who Brundage was as an individual and find an appropriate way to honor him. Ideal recognition would “knit the community together.”
The group discussed a possible outdoor event at the Toledo Botanical Gardens, a scholarship to honor Brundage or a science lab to be named for him at Scott High School.

Is plowing the mayor's street a tradition that is justified?

13abc has this story on the City plowing clean a mayor's street. Bell is the current mayor, but the story covers previous mayors. If I was Bell I would put a stop to this asap. It sounds snotty.
But no other government employees received preferential treatment.

Want your side street plowed first? Move next to the mayor! 13abc's Greg Bilazarian checked in how Mayor Mike Bell's Old Orchard street looked.

Like Central Avenue, the mayor's street was cleaned down to the pavement and the city admits that it's no accident. When the snow falls, the plows head for Hopewell.

Where did the KnowledgeWorks money go?

Today Robert Vasquez apologized to the people who had been tarnished by the secret investigations, in attempt to push the the atrocities under the rug and move on. He stated, "On behalf of the board, I want the taxpayers of this community to know that we have been reviewing the auditor's reports, and we find these actions to be completely unacceptable," Mr. Vasquez said.
