Beck To Governor: Ohio Hemorrhages More Jobs Under Your Watch

Columbus—State Representative Peter Beck (R-Mason) today delivered a letter to Governor Strickland regarding his deep concern over the loss of 250 local jobs.

“Ohio is hemorrhaging jobs due to our state’s uncompetitive business climate,” Beck said. “Ohioans need jobs, and lawmakers should encourage the businesses that can provide those vital jobs. It is long overdue that we make Ohio economically competitive again.”

Rich Iott to attend Children of Liberty Rally Today in Downtown Toledo

News Editors, Reporters, Producers: This is only an advisory that businessman Rich Iott, a candidate for the Republican nomination for Congress in Ohio's 9th District, will attend the rally sponsored by the Children of Liberty in downtown Toledo this afternoon.

The rally is to voice opposition to the national health care bill under consideration in Congress.

City Issues Layoff Notices

"Plan B" to balance the budget would result in severe cuts to parks and public safety

The City of Toledo today issued 137.5 layoff notices in an effort to present a balanced budget come March 31st. The layoff measures would be in addition to other cuts and revenue enhancements that have been proposed for council approval, but not yet acted upon. The personnel cuts so far would result in the elimination of 125 police officers and 32.5 other non-essential general fund positions - some of which are currently vacant. Other notices are pending.

The Lucas County Board of Elections is looking for a few good people to work the polls during the Primary on Tuesday May 4, 2010 and at the November 2, 2010 General Election. The position of Poll Judge pays $120 and requires attendance at one paid training class. The federal funds are provided through the Ohio Department of Health and its State Office of Rural Health.

Rep. Sears Honors Local Athlete on the House Floor

COLUMBUS— State Representative Barbara Sears (R- Maumee) yesterday honored Meredith Wagner of Northview High School on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Wagner won the state competition for Division I Girls High School Cross Country, besting more than 5,000 other young women and finishing with a time of 18:03. She has signed a letter of intent to continue running for the Ohio State University.

Representative Sears stated, “It is always such an honor to have students from our district recognized and honored on the floor of the House.”
