Columbus—State Representative Peter Beck (R-Mason) today delivered a letter to Governor Strickland regarding his deep concern over the loss of 250 local jobs.

“Ohio is hemorrhaging jobs due to our state’s uncompetitive business climate,” Beck said. “Ohioans need jobs, and lawmakers should encourage the businesses that can provide those vital jobs. It is long overdue that we make Ohio economically competitive again.”

The rally is to voice opposition to the national health care bill under consideration in Congress.

Iott is opposed both to the health care bill itself and to the manner in which the Democratic leaders in the House are considering passing it by "deeming it to have passed" without an actual vote.

(TOLEDO, OH - March 12, 2010) – Prisoners who are being released back to Lucas County from state prisons are getting support that could help them remain law abiding and less likely to committing more crimes that could send them back behind bars.

"Plan B" to balance the budget would result in severe cuts to parks and public safety

The City of Toledo today issued 137.5 layoff notices in an effort to present a balanced budget come March 31st. The layoff measures would be in addition to other cuts and revenue enhancements that have been proposed for council approval, but not yet acted upon. The personnel cuts so far would result in the elimination of 125 police officers and 32.5 other non-essential general fund positions - some of which are currently vacant. Other notices are pending.

The Lucas County Board of Elections is looking for a few good people to work the polls during the Primary on Tuesday May 4, 2010 and at the November 2, 2010 General Election. The position of Poll Judge pays $120 and requires attendance at one paid training class. WASHINGTON- Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) made the following statement regarding updated Ohio unemployment county numbers released today by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Of the 16 counties within Ohio’s Fifth Congressional District, five counties have an unemployment rate of 15 percent or higher.

COLUMBUS – Small and rural hospitals across Ohio are improving services to their communities thanks to $663,300 in federal and state grants administered by the Foundation for Healthy Communities of the Ohio Hospital Association. The federal funds are provided through the Ohio Department of Health and its State Office of Rural Health.

Toledo, Ohio – Monday, March 15, will be an important date for the City of Toledo’s Library Village residents. On that date, construction crews are scheduled to begin work at as many as three locations along Berdan Avenue. This work will result in the separation of combined sanitary and storm-water sewers in the area.

Event features food, dancing, musical performances from around the world

Toledo Sister Cities International will host a new and expanded International Festival on March 20th at the Civic Center Promenade in the Erie Street Market. The afternoon event will feature food, dancing, music and other performances by participants celebrating the cultures of Spain, China, Hungary, Poland, Japan, Tanzania, Germany, Lebanon, Pakistan, India and Egypt.

COLUMBUS— State Representative Barbara Sears (R- Maumee) yesterday honored Meredith Wagner of Northview High School on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Wagner won the state competition for Division I Girls High School Cross Country, besting more than 5,000 other young women and finishing with a time of 18:03. She has signed a letter of intent to continue running for the Ohio State University.

Representative Sears stated, “It is always such an honor to have students from our district recognized and honored on the floor of the House.”
