MLK Day is as fake as Kwanzaa!

A Decade of Self-Delusion

A Decade of Self-Delusion by Pat Buchanan (Republican)
http://townhall.com/columnists/PatBuchanan/2009/12/29/a_decade_of_self-d...
About the first decade of what was to be the Second American Century, the pessimists have been proven right.

According to the International Monetary Fund, the United States began the century producing 32 percent of the world's gross domestic product. We ended the decade producing 24 percent. No nation in modern history, save for the late Soviet Union, has seen so precipitous a decline in relative power in a single decade.

The Toledo Blade weighs in: "Gerken Going Rogue"

Article published January 08, 2010
UAW commissioner

PETE Gerken the longtime United Auto Workers' official should have known better than to purchase an Acura TL automobile as a Christmas gift for his wife. But Pete Gerken the Lucas County commissioner should have thumbed his nose at UAW bullies who strong-armed him into returning the American-made vehicle.

Who is the embarassment here? The former mayor or the talk show host.

The end of an error

By the time you’re reading this, it will be almost over: Four long, hard, grueling years of national embarrassment, local incompetence and stunted economic growth, all the result of what history may accurately record as Toledo’s Greatest Mistake, the election of Carl Finkbeiner.
What else could explain the (re-) election of a certifiable failure and nationally known joke-of-a-mayor whose sole accomplishment was as a “Trivial Pursuit” answer?

It's easy to criticize cops when YOUR life isn't in danger!

Folks challenge use of force against mentally ill woman

At a candlelight vigil held Tuesday evening, people remembered Linda Hicks, who died Monday after being shot by Toledo police. Now, people are questioning whether the use of such force against the mentally ill woman was really necessary.

Parallels to FDR's treatment of Business in the 30s

Just read an interesting op-ed piece in Bloomberg by Amity Shlaes that draws parallels between what the Federal Govt is doing to business now and what FDR and company did to business in the 1930's. This is worth the read. Here is the link: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&sid=aAdz7MFnI4X4

President Obama Face Time

Well I guess we had another visit from our prime time President (move over Dion) on his latest crisis he felt compelled to make, the most pressing emergency in the history of the USA. Not that the troops aren't important but come on! It was all leaked the weekend before as test balloons to see just how much flack he was going to be getting from everywhere. (A typical tactic of the Obama Admin,) The dithering for the entire month did show that he was truly perplexed on the whole issue, and he showed it in the various photo ops he staged with flag draped coffins and strolls through Arlington.

Another bad decision by former UT dean Yueh-Ting Lee

As you can see with the previous post Yueh-Ting Lee has threatened to sue Lisa Renee at Glass City Jungle for linking to stories about his resignation at the University of Toledo as his role as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. As we also read, he moved to the HR department but it makes one wonder if he should be in an admin position at all.

George Washington, Thanksgiving and Joseph's Birthright!

George Washington issued our country's first Thanksgiving Proclamation on October 3, 1789. In it, President Washington wrote:

"Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor . . .

Dr. Kevorkian elevated to sainthood?

Could it be? Is it possible? Did I hear that right?

I couldn't believe my ears when I tuned into 60 minutes last night and was actually hearing the advocating for limited health care for the terminally ill patients in the ICU. After all they are just going to die anyway. It's a "natural progression".

Our view on defense earmarks: Campaign cash for contracts casts Congress in a bad light

USA Today's stance on the PMA scandal:
===
When it came out last month that seven members of a key House committee were under scrutiny by ethics investigators, House leaders were outraged.

Not about the clear implication of the inquiry — that defense contracts are for sale. The leaders were upset about the accidental leak that allowed the information to come out publicly.

Strickland governs frugally
http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091114/OPINION03...
A recent headline in The Blade read: "Jobless rate soars to highest since 1983." The Blade's editorial followed, challenging Gov. Ted Strickland to create jobs or beware of his re-election.

The Blade's editorial writer should be smarter than that. And fairer than that.

If George Bush and Barack Obama, with all their clout, can't create private sector jobs, how can a governor be expected to do so?

Thanksgiving Day (having an attitude of gratitude)

The Israelite Origins of the United States

This recent exchange with a gentleman at the History Channel Forum is just in time for Thanksgiving Day. God help us to remember our Hebrew roots and biblical responsibilities and always have an attitude of gratitude for His tender mercies!

EDITORIAL: Old-school corruption

Before taking control of the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, "Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open, and most ethical Congress in history." However, with dozens of mostly Democratic lawmakers and various staff under investigation by the House's twin ethics bodies, the majority clearly values political power over clean government.

As a media industry observer, I read your Sunday story "Solid future for Toledo area Chrysler plants" with great interest. Nothing would make me happier than the prospect of the Jeep plants running at full capacity to meet demand for worldwide export. Unfortunately, not one of the five experts quoted mentioned the largest barrier to such a rosy future: the high tariffs and taxation applied to U.S.-made goods in foreign markets.
