COSI - looks like we're on the hook for $9 million for a PRIVATE BUSINESS!!
The MLK Bridge - 10 years of repairs and it's still falling apart.
The Erie Street Market - Anyone been there lately?? What a crime!
Possibly something Ive missed?
Does anyone have the figures of what we've dumped into these ventures?
I cannot understand how COSI is a private business.
It was created by state funds as a cultural attraction. It was funded by public levies.
There are a whole lot of 501C3's that do not get public funding and are private.
"Fiscal Prudence
COSI Toledo was designed to be self-sufficient based essentially on three revenue streams; admissions, memberships and grants/sponsorships. This has proven to be an unorthodox funding model for a science center. Over 90% of the science centers and children's museums in the United States receive some kind of public funding.
COSI Toledo's experience shows why this funding model is unusual. Approximately 70% of its revenue comes from admissions. As a result even the slightest interference in the funding stream, terrorist attacks, recession, or cuts in school field trips, will cause a budget deficit. Unfortunately, COSI Toledo has experienced all of these adverse financial impacts since its inception. "
There is that term, revenue stream....and ours has sailed down the Maumee to who knows where...

COSI was probably sold to the public as a private entity just to get its foot in the door. Later, the Communists running Toledo's politics were going to put it on the dole along with the rest of their pet projects ... and that's TODAY, folks. The future finally arrived.
Government just LOVES to get us all into projects where predictably we have to spend money one way or another. That's how politicians function; they build their little empires and kingdoms on the economic equivalent of a tar baby.
Anyone who thinks that Toledo's tax burden needs to increase, while potholes and bent light poles and flooding events increase, needs to have his fucking head examined. Putting COSI on the dole would be a silver spoon wrapped in a paper plate, and a poorly silver-plated spoon at that ... since they weren't particularly careful with private funds, so why should they be any better at handling money if it comes at NO COST? NECESSITIES BEFORE LUXURIES. That half of Toledo's voting voters voted for COSI, only shows they know nothing about living within your means.
A "children's science museum" is obviously beyond Toledo's capabilities. Close it and stop pretending otherwise!
have the biggest money pit in common..Carty Finkbeiner
My vote thus far is for the Marina District. It's been seven years and we've seen little action taken and no reward as of yet.
Of course this vote is subject to change.
