AAA Michigan says gas prices down 28 cents

DEARBORN, Mich. — AAA Michigan says gasoline prices have fallen about 28 cents a gallon over the past week to a statewide average of $3.89.

Gas prices had risen quickly across the country with Hurricane Ike leaving refineries and pipelines idled and destroying offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. But prices eased amid the hurricane cleanup.

A record 1.6 million barrels a day in U.S. refined petroleum products were exported during the first four months of this year, up 33 percent from 1.2 million barrels a day over the same period in 2007. Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner plans to introduce
legislation to City Council calling for the creation of a vacant
residential building registration.

The legislation would require registration and fees for each vacant residential structure in the city.

I was just on the city's website and noticed an ad for Toledoan of the Year 2007 award nominations. I was kinda thrown off, thinking maybe they put the wrong year. Reading further it says to nominate somebody who made a difference in the year 2007. By the time the awards are announced this summer, 2008 will almost be half over. I don't get it....

I thought this was a breaking news and political blog...

A new Illinois law bans smoking in public places. That's taken some of the steam out of this weekend's Chicagoland International Pipe & Tobacciana Show in St. Charles.

METHUEN — Rose Griffin is not dead, so the call from someone trying to arrange her funeral was a bit of a shock. The Methuen woman got the call at a late hour Friday night from someone looking for her son, who was not there.

When an irate Griffin used her caller ID to call back, the man informed her he was a funeral director trying to make arrangements for her son's dead mother.
