The Sylvania merger "study" is getting play in our local media. I find it interesting that OneSylvania protested when the Sylvania Township trustees took a position on the merger in a 3-0, but now the Sylvania City Council President is the "pro merger" spokesperson? Isn't that a tad hypocritical? Are there any "Joe the Plumber" types in favor of a merger?

"Health Care REIT Inc., a company which buys property nationally to be used for health care operations, said today it is moving its offices out of downtown Toledo and buying the headquarters of Dana Holding Corp. at 4500 Dorr St."

The Toledo metro area has the second-highest rate of rapidly growing firms statewide, an important factor for economic development, a recent U.S. Small Business Administration study found.

Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority bus service would be reduced by about 7 percent, primarily affecting suburban routes, under a cost-cutting plan developed by agency staff members that will be the subject of public hearings next week.

People who have experienced property damage because of flooding or other natural disasters are reminded that they may qualify for a reduction in property taxes.

Delta Air Lines announced yesterday that it will discontinue all passenger service to and from Toledo Express Airport, leaving the airport with only three airline carriers by this fall and daily flights to just two cities.

"Perhaps it's a testament to the indomitable
spirit of entrepreneurs that many small-business owners in the Toledo
area remain optimistic despite high energy prices, rising costs of
materials, spiraling health-care costs, and fears of a recession."

"The firm will consolidate area facilities into
the new 395,000-squafe foot facility. The township also will receive a
$75,000 grant for road work near the facility. It is expected to create
31 jobs and retain 152 locally."

I am just a normal middle class person living in Oregon, Ohio. I have lived here for the past 17 years. Our family of four loves this community, but we, like many other families in Oregon and other areas I am sure, just cannot pay any more taxes. We may have to sell our home to move to an area with lower property taxes.

Vacant and abandoned properties in Toledo and
several other Ohio cities are costing taxpayers millions, both in city
services and lost tax dollars, according to a new study.

The study, "$60 Million and Counting: The Cost of Vacant and Abandoned
Properties to Eight Ohio Cities," is being released today at a forum at
the Statehouse in Columbus.

"The city of Toledo's revenue last year from
tax-sharing agreements with other communities increased sharply after
dipping a year earlier.
The city so far has collected $913,596 for 2007 from its joint economic
development zones and districts with Maumee, Perrysburg, Rossford, and
Monclova Township.

This group was featured as one of Tony and Todd's Roadside Attractions. These are usually iteresting and fun and since this site has been so fully of heavy and depressing news, I thought we could use a change in tone.

SWANTON - Mayor Tandy Grubbs and his wife didn't file village income tax returns for four years, according to complaints filed in court last week by Village Council.

Lucas County commissioners are taking the downtown arena discussion back to the public, this time through a series of planned meetings to field suggestions for the arena's design.

"Ultimately people don't like more taxes, so responsible leaders should push for some form of Uuigov" Mr. McNamara said. "Otherwise, I see [Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner] going back to the voters for more taxes.

the cloud of dark smoke you see is from the exhaust fumes of the family cars leaving toledo. the title "little detroit" is becoming more appropriate as this city literally pushes its middle class to the 'burbs.

i can't wait to hear the scare mongering by our politicians. say it with me...."higher taxes, less services, higher taxes, less services".
