Toledo City Council President Mark Sobczak shied away yesterday from the city taking over operations of Toledo Express Airport and Metcalf Field - one of four options proposed by the director of both airports.

"I think the city is probably not best suited to run the airports," Mr. Sobczak said. "The port authority has been doing a good job."

The TSA is pointing the finger at airlines for passengers being put on the "no-fly" and "special search" list. What a crock! This is typical of government to point the finger back at private industry for implementing government's own cock-eyed policies. Let's see... what color is our terrorist threat this month?

"Former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia, now running for president on the Libertarian ticket, told a Portland crowd today he got into the race to offer an option for those who want less government intrusion in their lives.

As some of you know and who are probably tired of reading my posts, I am a strong advocate of the American people's rights and of minimal government interference in our lives. But I believe the issue is serious and our freedoms are in jeopardy. Here is a timely article to think about.

The Cook County Board of Commissioners is conducting a telephone poll where callers can vote for or against gun control ordinances that would close all gun shops in the county, including the recently opened Cabela's sporting goods store in Hoffman Estates. Cabela's customer base extends into Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan.

Here we go on the roller coaster. The Supreme Court is now hearing oral arguments on the constitutionality of DC's ban of handguns. From the first day's arguments, it sounds as if the proponents of gun rights are getting a positive hearing.

Ron Paul, the only clear-headed statesman in the US Congress, was also the only vote against a House resolution strongly defending how Israel has countered Palastinian rocket attacks by smart-bombing the Gaza Strip. More than 100 Palestinians and three Israelis have been killed since last Wednesday. Before you get your underwear in a knot, consider this in Paul's own words.

The Supreme Court is taking up the question of individual gun rights by promising to rule on the D.C. law that currently prohibits handgun ownership. This may be the first time in more than two hundred years that a definitive ruling may be made on the 2nd Amendment rights of individual citizens to own firearms anywhere and in any jurisdiction.

Traveling into or out of the country? Prepare to have your cell phone, laptop, and other electronic devices seized -for no apparent reason to you. It's becoming positively Orwellian in this country, and the government's police powers are absolute.

Are they serious? Apparently so. Now we know the real cause of global warming. The most hilarious part of this story, though, is that the name of the school newsletter is the Fire Cracker. Don't you just love irony? (Or is it just me?)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover had a plan to suspend the rules against illegal detention and arrest up to 12,000 Americans he suspected of being disloyal, according to a newly declassified document.

I'm sure everyone is tired of discussing the smoking ban. But, no, not the Blade. It's beating the drums again, this time in an editorial about Michigan. It avers, "By now the old arguments of ban opponents - that mandating the healthy change in public establishments would hurt business and economic development - have been debunked many times over." Bullfeathers!

If you've ever called the cops for some reason and then had to wait hours for them to come, here's a new twist... just tell them somebody is smoking in a bar. Said to work better than saying someone has a gun.
