After stonewalling a civil rights investigation for 10 months, the Finkbeiner Administration has decided to have Toledoans pay $360 an hour for outside legal counsel as the discrimination case heads to federal court.

African-Americans in metro Toledo get more high-cost home loans than do white residents, although the proportion is down slightly from a similar study two years ago, according to a national nonprofit group.

Toledo official fired over issue of medical leave

Dwayne Morehead, who campaigned hard for Carty Finkbeiner for mayor in 2005 but later claimed racial discrimination over a job reassignment, has been fired.

Mr. Morehead, 34, was an administrative specialist with the city's Board of Community Relations at an annual salary of $45,000. He was terminated for "job abandonment," said Brian Schwartz, the mayor's spokesman.

I'm getting concerned that the discriminatory practices by the Finkbeiner Administration is going to end up a disaster for the City budget. Walgreens just got nailed for mistreating of its minority employees in the amount of $20 million dollars. Is this where Mr. Finkbeiner is headed with the Griffin, Morehead, Daugherty case.

Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner today is expected to nominate a permanent replacement for Perlean Griffin, who was fired in March from her job as executive director of the city's Office of Affirmative Action/Contract Compliance.

City Employee Gets Abandoned In Harms Way

Last Fall a female employee of City of Toledo was abandoned at a construction site by three of her co-workers. Her foot became stuck in the mud and her co-workers jeered at her, took a picture of her with a cell phone camera and left her to free herself while bulldozers and other heavy equipment was whizzing around her.
