I recently had a letter of opinion published in the Blade. In it, I asked why liberals wanted us to butt out of other country's business (regarding Iraq and the Bush years) but now they want to get involved in rebuilding Haiti.
I have since received several hateful, profanity laced letters mailed to my home by liberal Blade readers who obviously didn't enjoy their morning breakfast after reading my letter.
This begs the question, why does the Blade list the name of the street an opinion writer lives on? What's the point?

Allowing gambling casinos in Ohio would be a mistake for which Ohioans would pay dearly. Gambling can become an addiction as deadly as drugs or alcohol. When people first start to use drugs or alcohol they assume they can "control" their usage. Some people can control the use of alcohol and never become alcoholics but sadly many peoples lives are ruined by it. I have seen firsthand friends, family members and neighbors who have destroyed their life and the life of those around them by drug, alcohol AND gambling addictions.

I have a question of our new President's plan to give $900 million to rebuild The Gaza Strip. Who is in charge of Gaza? If a group had organized to collect money for Hama's 2 years ago, their accounts would have been frozen and they would have been imprisoned for supporting a terrorist organization. What do you think Hamas will do with $900 million? Do you really think that we would have any control of that money once it gets there? Do you think they will now start building schools that will educate boys and girls in enlightened ways, or in the old ways of hate that keeps them in power?

Today in the Toledo Blade's page of opinion there's a piece entitled "Museum ship belongs in historic port. In the article Dick Slawinski remembers how the ships use to come in and of the harbor. He concludes that "Toledo should get behind the effort, physically and financially, so we can uphold a tradition of a fine seaport and show off our museum ship." With the tight budget that Toledo has for police and recent legal actions against the mayor, should Toledo take on this extra expense?
