Raising Fears, Raising Taxes: Let's raise hell

I posted this at, the other day> I've not ventured into the Swamp much lately, so I decided to try this blog feature and cross--post here.

When Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner yesterday was criticized for witholding the run-down of Police Department layoffs, he explained, “The last thing that I think that anybody responsible should do in the city of Toledo is raise the fears of our citizens.”

So, why was fear the first thing that he, Toledo City Council, and the Toledo Blade turned to when the 3/4% income tax was up for renewal in 2008?

From a Feb 25, 2008 Toledo Blade newstory:

Memorial Day is near

West Park Place teams up with History Documented

"Today there are 19 million war veterans in the United States and every day we lose approximately 1,600 of them."

This is why History Documented has begun to work in collaboration with the West Park Place retirement home. The Program Director of West Park Place Carol Nadaud, has welcomed History Documented to interview residents who have served our country. A handful of interviews have been posted on History, and many more are in the works.History Documented will also be on hand for Memorial Day events to honor all those who have served, past and present. Each event is geared to honor, those who have served, and educate future generations. Please join us in our efforts to embrace our heritage, and honor those who gave the " last full measure of devotion".

Joe the Author, Plumbing New Lows in Interest

I hope he sells enough books to pay his taxes. Ohio could really use it right now.

Joe the Plumber (no longer a plumber; first name actually Samuel) popped into our town yesterday evening to sell his new book and to remind people that he's still a plain and simple guy. Mission accomplished, on at least one of his missions.

What to do about the strays?

Humane Ohio is a low-cost spay/neuter clinic available to the entire Toledo area. While regular prices are $45 for cats and $25 for strays, current rates for East Toledo are only $25 for cats and free for strays - this is to address the overwhelming cat population in that area. If you cannot provide transportation or simply do not have the time, you can schedule an East Toledo specific appointment and transportation will be provided for your cat.
