http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2010/0206/1224263887379.html
TOYOTA OWNERS with noticeably faulty cars who are aware their car is part of the recall by Toyota could be charged under the Road Traffic Act if involved in a traffic incident, it has emerged.
A solicitor specialising in road traffic law has raised concerns of whether Toyota owners would be liable in the event of an incident, if they had been made aware their car was part of a recall and noticed a problem with the accelerator.(MORE)

Rich Iott to enter Republican primary, drop bid as independent
It appears that Rich Iott has seen the folly of an independent bid for the 9th district House seat. We're gonna have us a good old fashioned primary! May the best candidate win, and may all republicans in the district unite behind the winner, and bring a friend or two! It will be fun to watch the two candidates make their case. And hopefully they both remember Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment. "Thou shall not speak ill of another republican". And since I really doubt The Stain is a republican, have at it!

MY CANS CAME TODAY! MY CANS CAME TODAY! YEAH!
What a surprise, when I came home today from visiting the Imagination Station with my grandchildren. There in front of my two eyes were two large trash cans. One had Recycle on it. I have been waiting for this day since I learned that we were going to have automated trash collecting. They are not as large and cumbersome as I thought they would be. Great! Sorry, if anyone loses their job to this automated system but I can't wait to use mine.

Snow well to the south of us!
Just checked in with NWS Houston. The preliminary daily climate summary up to 1700hrsCDT showed 0.8" of snow had fallen. This would make it the earliest snowfall on record. Heavier amounts were reported around the area. Winter storm warnings continue for a while yet and shift ENE into Louisianna and central MS as the evening wears on. Feel for those folks as they don't have plows and too many spreaders...

Opal Covey Will Be Our Next Mayor
After seeing the poll that was posted here on Swampbubbles showing Ms. Covey leading with 59% of those responding I think I can safely say there is momentum moving in her direction. The people of Toledo are finally fed up with politics as usual and are expressing their frustration. My prediction for the final results of the Toledo mayoral primary is the top two vote-getters will be Opal Covey and Mike Bell. In the final matchup in November Opal Covey will defeat Bell handily. I wonder if jr of TT has come to the same conclusion?

Cleaning Pickford Park
A break from the political with this WTVG-13 story about Pickford Park. Glad to see local folks stepping up and taking the initiative to demonstrate pride in their neighborhood.
The city's budget trouble is one reason why residents in a Toledo neighborhood joined forces today. Someone has to clean Pickford Park.
Toledo dentist, wife leave $3 million to Ohio State University
From the Toledo Blade:
Dr. Richard Veler's very first donation to Ohio State University's College of Dentistry came more than 60 years ago in the small sum of $10.
But college leaders announced Friday that their largest, single gift in history - $3 million - was given by the estate of the late Dr. Veler, a retired Toledo dentist.

Jazz in the Garden
I have a brief review of tonight's Jazz in the Garden featuring the Toledo Jazz Orchestra, but just a reminder that there are only two concerts left in the series:
* August 13: Vocalist Ramona Collins
* August 20: Los Gringos
Tickets are $7 each, and you can bring your own cooler plus folding chairs or a blanket for a relaxing and entertaining evening.
Dope-smoking causes cancer
- Healthy Living:Marijuana Causes Cancer, California Regulators Say
Friday, June 19, 2009
SAN FRANCISCO — Marijuana smoke has joined tobacco smoke and hundreds of other chemicals on a list of substances California regulators say cause cancer.
The ruling Friday by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment likely will force pot shops with 10 or more employees to post warnings. Final guidelines are expected by the time warning requirements take effect in a year.
The listing only applies to marijuana smoke, not the plant itself.
Red light cameras in Northwood
Here is one to ponder for y'all...Earlier this afternoon I was coming north on Woodville Rd and had to stop for the signal at Lemoyne Rd. You know...the one with the redlight and radar cameras...

Finding Homes For Cats
My daughter has been very active in helping stray cats in her area (neutering, vet checks, socialization) & has created a website to find homes for these cats. She won't adopt them out until they're 'good to go', and is careful about the homes she places the cats with (some cats do well with kids & dogs, others do not). Please take a minute & check out her site, and keep it in mind.
Check out my site and keep us in mind in the future if you choose to adopt a cat:
Does anyone believe the city will not bill the home owner for a fire run?

Where is Carty?
Where is Carty. No one knows. The laid off police who are waiting at his office for an audience can't find him. His spokes puppet don't know where he is. Just says hes at a retreat. Chief Navarre doesn't know where he is. Makes one wonder if some catastrophe should strike Toledo today, who is in charge?

Northwest/Delta adding flights/seats at Toledo Express

An increase from 4 daily flights to 6 daily flights, upgrades from turboprop to jet service, and a 48% increase in the number of seats offered daily. Way to go TOL! In today's economy, it's great to see an airline making it easier to get to Toledo. Delta (Northwest) could just as easily end all service here. Lets hope it brings bigger and better things to our airport in the future.
