Do You Think Dog Warden Skeldon Helps Or Hurts Lucas County's Image

Gerken and the Dog Warden Controversy

Today, Pete Gerken and Tina Skeldon Wozniak denied Ben Konop's motion to remove Tom Skeldon as dog warden. (not sure if Tina had a conflict of interest there).

One could say this vote was predictable. Putting aside Tina's possible conflict of interest, we should take a look at the other commissioner's past statements.

Buckeye Express versus AT&T U-Verse - Any Opinions?

I am thinking of switching from Buckeye Express to AT&T U-Verse. Anyone make the switch, or have an enlightened (or otherwise) opinion on the relative merits of U-Verse? Mostly I am switching to keep John Robinson Block from reading my email and tapping my phone lines.

(Dramatic pause for conspiratorial effect)

OK, JRB doesn't read my email. I think. But any opinions would be greatly appreciated

Suit Asks for Kriner's Ouster

The Blade reported that the big lawsuit to oust Kriner from the BOE was today. Anyone know how it went? Did Kriner get the boot? Was the suit deemed frivolous? I can't seem to find anything online on this.

Where is Marcy?

Where is Marcy Kaptur? When is the last time she has been in Northwest Ohio? She didn't greet the veterans on the Honor Flight in Washington. She did not show up at the Polish Festival like she normally does. We can only assume she is alive by the press releases
from her office. But has anyone actually seen her? I wonder where she is.

Who's Yo Daddy

Question? Rumor Has It

Rumor has it that three juveniles are being held in connection with the last attack on a woman on Mulberry in North Toledo. According to the story, an 88 year old woman, who lives doors down from the woman who was murdered, was attacked in her home. She was beatten about the head, by someone unknown, and then her car keys were taken. However when the car alarm went off, the person fled.

Has anyone heard any information pertaining to the arrest of the juveniles?

Should Carty Have Accepted The TPPA Concession To Pick Up Their Portion of Their Pension And Signed The Contract?

How Do We Protest Against Carty?

Is is legal to carry a sandwich board with “Carty Should Resign” around downtown, or does that require some kind of permission from the city’s administration? Is it legal to walk around with a t-shirt printed “Carty Should Resign”, and stop to chat with people of a like persuasion? What about a t-shirt printed “Carty Should Resign” and “..the Toledo City Council, Too!!”. Are these forms of protest that will allow the protester to be left alone, or should s/he be prepared to be hastled by the legal authorities.

Would Popular Protest Get Carty to Resign?

If we really believe that Carty is the problem with Toledo, then why have there been no mass protests? Eastern European nations faced the guns of their police and armed forces to protest their governments, and get them removed. Perhaps it is time that thousands of Toledoans took to the streets, and protested the lethargic response to governing from the 22nd floor of Government Center. Will we wait while TBT glacially moves to solve this problem, or gather to protest the governance of this city?

How Should Carty Handle TPPA Negotiations

Is Recycling Becoming Too Expensive For Toledo?

This article in the Toledo Blade, http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090329/NEWS16/90..., points out that recycling is now costing the citizens of Toledo rather than providing some revenue. I, for one, would be willing to take my trash to the recycling bins we have in various places throughout the city. When I walk with a friend at Navarre Park there is a recycling center there. Wildwood is near the Kroger’s on Monroe Street so I can recycle there, and there is a recycling center at the Kroger’s near the corner of Glendale and South Reynolds.

Best-selling author, Teen Challenge founder, sees 'earth-shattering calamity about to happen'

What do you think ?
respected pastor, best-selling author and founder of a major ministry to teens predicts an imminent "earth-shattering calamity" centered in New York City that will spread to major urban areas across the country and around the world – part of what he sees as a judgment from God.

Today Southland Kroger Was The Site of Mayor Recall Petition Drive

Today petitioners were out trying to get signatures to get a recall petition on the ballot. I ran into about three of them at the entrance to the Kroger's at Southland. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Marcy Kaptur home this weekend, should she be?

Stopped at Sofo Foods on Monroe St. this evening, and as we got to the register, the wife says to me "I think that was Marcy Kaptur two people in front of us". Lucky for Marcy, I wasn't paying attention, but sure enough, I see a Ford Five Hundred sedan with the plate MCK 9 backing out of a parking space.

I wish I'd realized it was her. I doubt she gets to talk very often with an actual constituent who hadn't been cleared by her staff. I would have loved to share my opinion on the "Porkulus" bill, though I doubt it would change her mind.

Privatization vs. Automation of Trash Pickup

This link, http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090130/NEWS16/90..., to a report in the Toledo Blade mentions two possible options. Privatization which would save $3.6 million, and “a second option, which would save nearly $3 million a year, is to spend $12.2 million to buy 40 new automated refuse trucks and continue with city workers collecting trash and recyclables “. I prefer the first option, but I wonder if we should keep the trucks, and lease them to the private sector (in case we find out that it is not working).
