Just checked in with NWS Houston. The preliminary daily climate summary up to 1700hrsCDT showed 0.8" of snow had fallen. This would make it the earliest snowfall on record. Heavier amounts were reported around the area. Winter storm warnings continue for a while yet and shift ENE into Louisianna and central MS as the evening wears on. Feel for those folks as they don't have plows and too many spreaders...

Cool July is breaking records, but in Cleveland it's only in the Top 10 of coolest Julys
What is this, Christmas in July?
Not quite, but this unseasonably chilly midsummer month is about to break cold-weather records throughout the Midwest -- some more than 100 years old.
Meteorologists from Madison, Wis., to Chicago to Toledo, Akron and Columbus -- and dozens of cities in between -- are watching their thermometers as the month winds down.

Americans for Prosperity "Hot Air Balloon Stop" At UT
Americans for Prosperity, with the help of the UT College Republicans, are hosting a "Hot Air Balloon Stop" to highlight the dangers of Cap and Trade, the increased taxation and potential job loss of harsh energy policy, and to combat the "extremist" views of Al Gore. The event will be held on April 30 in the Carter Recreational Field on the University of Toledo campus at 9:00 am. Carter Field is located directly across from the campus Rec Center and is on the corner of Oakwood and N. Westwood.
CNN Breaking News: 100 idiots trapped on ice near Toledo
You just gotta love it..... Flipping thru channels, and as I pass CNN, I see a map of Lucas County on the screen. I stopped and went back (like I'd watch CNN, puh-leeze), and sure enough we are currently breaking news. 51 degrees here, and 100 idiots decided to go ice fishing. Gee, the ice is breaking up and they are trapped..... Apparently both Lucas and Ottawa Counties are involved in the rescue.

Flood plain update stirs fears
Sam Phillips remembers the flood of 1973, when a few inches of rocks protected his Point Place house from the crashing waves of Lake Erie.
The water threatened, but it never entered his Lakeside Avenue house. Others in Point Place, though, weren't as lucky.

Iowa's Resillient Residents
The people of Iowa are a shining example of how American communities can really come together in times of need and disaster. They are not whining, not blaming the Feds, not shooting at rescuers and I haven't seen any reports of looting either. A testament to the Midwest mentality.

Odd weather and enviornment
Ok...tonight this was a storm. The wind was blowing quite bad.
Have you noticed that the weather and other events are really strange? Earthquakes, storms, tornados, and monsoons. It just seems like a lot going on. What do you think?

Tonight's storm, two worlds apart?
So I was watching 13abc after the sirens went off thinking something may be bad. Well I looked at the radar, heard the commentary, and thought oh we will get a bad one. I once I saw the rain approaching, I went and shut our windows so the rain would not come in. I waited and waited. Well I was disappointed that there was only enough rain to wet the sidewalk.

Rainy Sunday
As I sit here at Beaner's (err...Biggby's) enjoying a grande size $3.00 Latte (and their Free Wi-Fi) on this Sunday morning, the sound of rain hitting the window panes and the Sweet Jazz emiting from the sound system I am immersed in a Sea of Tranquility far away and outside the world of Political Talking heads on the TV, the reading of the latest escapades of Mayor Finkbeiner in the Toledo Blade

Blizzard Bill will now be on 13abc
Blizzard Bill Spencer is moving to 13abc. I thought he was covered under a franchise contract at NBC 24. Why not? The presidential election will ensure there is lots of money flowing this year to the TV stations.

Weather WebSites no longer free.
Due to the Passage of the Oregon School Property Tax Levy. The Oregon Ohio Weather Station and Weather WebSite can no longer afford to be free. An E-Mail from the Owner stated.
This also affects the NorthWest Ohio Weather WebSite and the internet broadcast of Toledo's NOAA Weather Radio over the internet.
As of Thursday March 6th. There will be a fee to view these sites!

NOAA Weather Radio has changed to a new Frequency !
Please note that NOAA Weather Radio has changed to a new Frequency. NW Ohio has a New NOAA Weather Radio system and is no longer on the same channel.
Please reset your Weather Radios to channel 5 OR 162.500 mhz.
If you have an older unit you may not have this frequency. You will need to get a new weather radio. Try the Midland WR 300. It works well.
Just in from the Homeland Security: Alert level raised
This just in from the federal government's new SMS alert system. The Department of Homeland Security has raised the hot cocoa alert for the area to "Elevated." This means there is significant risk that in the next 24 hrs you will need to snuggle up with someone and drink some hot cocoa.

MIA
Hello everyone. If you have not noticed, I was very silent the last 1.5 weeks. I caught that virus that was going around and it just knocked me out. I had everything you could possibly get with it and for the first time in my life I was actually worried about my health and how I would make it out of it.

High wind warning in the area - how many mph?
From an update from the Weather Channel.
"TONIGHT
BECOMING VERY WINDY AND COLDER. MOSTL CLOUDY WITH A
50 PERCENT CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS AROUND 10 ABOVE. WEST
WINDS INCREASING TO 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 450 MPH. WIND
CHILL VALUES AS LOW AS 11 BELOW AFTER MIDNIGHT."
The weather seems messed up.
Two nights in a row I’ve been woken up by thunderstorms. In February no less! I’m sure this topic will devolve into global warming and such (and I’ll happily participate) but I just wanted to point out that the weather does really seemed to have changed when I was a kid.
