Jeremy Baumhower stoops to a new low

The Kern girls lost their brother today, he passed away this morning.

Jeremy Baumhower posted an inexcusable, despicable Facebook post mocking the family and death with the lyrics by Queen:

"And another one gone, and another one gone. Another one bites the dust."

The actual post can be seen via the link below.

Is this the kind of behavior we want to teach our kids?

Can someone explain to me why this man has a job in social media?

This is deplorable. There is NO excuse. I am speechless.

New WLS Website

is up and running. Satirical district news. Pretty funny!

Wonder how long it will be before its subpoena'd!

Baumhower Found Guilty of Domestic Violence

WLS defamer Jeremy Baumhower was handed a guilty verdict in his November 3, 2015, domestic violence charge against his soon to be ex-wife, Shannon Tarsha. Baumhower has denied he injured Tarsha during this encounter and that he was "defending himself" after she flipped out on him. He went on to accuse her of suffering from bipolar disorder and claims she had recently changed medications, which is what (he claims) caused her to flip out. The judge requested evidence of this, which Baumhower failed to produce.

Patrick Hickey resigns

The Washington Local School board voted 5-0 to accept Patrick Hickey's resignation this evening closing his almost 8 year stint as superintendent of Washington Local Schools.

It is not illegal or against sunshine and ethics laws to leak executive session information

I am shocked at the discussions happening about it being criminal to leak executive session information by board members. It has gotten to a point that two people filed Ohio Ethics Commission complaints alleging a Washington Local Board member is doing something illegal and against Ohio ethics laws. Superintendent Hickey is also alleging he will want to make similar complaints (Hickey should know better).

When talking about a public figure goes from free speech to libel

There is a site out there about Patrick Hickey and Jeremy Baumhower which probably steps across the lines of what is acceptable and what is not. Public figures have a high threshold to prove slander and libel and they have to prove there is malice in the presentation of speech. In this context, the phrase refers to knowledge or reckless lack of investigation, rather than its ordinary meaning of malicious intent.

Hickey placed on leave again

According to the Blade:

Washington Local Schools Superintendent HIckey placed on paid leave again

The Washington Local Schools board of education has launched a new investigation of its embattled superintendent and placed him on paid leave while the board looks into new, unspecified allegations against him.

Patrick Hickey left the district’s administrative center on Lincolnshire Boulevard after a closed-door executive session tonight. He did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Why does Patrick Hickey feel compelled to tell staff not to talk to board members?

Terri Kern also came across this particular nugget.

Late last week, Patrick Hickey sent an email to staff telling them not to communicate with a board member who was asking questions about his leadership.

I am not sure why he thinks this is appropriate because it is his actions that have aroused the curiosity of the board and community to try really to get to the bottom of what goes on in the district.

Washington Local reprimands Greenwood principal Bill Colon for illegal campaigning during open house

Terri Kern was able to pull this nugget of information out from Washington Local and I would have to applaud them for doing the right thing. This is much more than what Sylvania did when their employees were caught campaigning during school hours. Attached is the written reprimand of Bill Colon for making announcements during open house advocating for candidates.

Washington Local School Board race

Other than the Toledo Mayoral race, the next election that is getting the most discussion is the Washington Local School Board. Here is why this election is important:

School boards need to be the group in charge of a school district, and when you have an administration that seems to run roughshod around rules without care for consequences, it is time for the school board to re-assert itself. The superintendent is an employee of the board, not the other way around this is a fact that some out there seem to want to ignore.

The question is not if Washington Local violated state law during its Issue 2 levy campaign in 2014, but to what extent

Updated with Patrick Hickey's statement

My curiosity was stirred in watching everything going on at Washington Local and stirred even more once Superintendent Patrick Hickey blocked me on Twitter for stating the obvious. Seeing a disturbing behavior here I decided to look at some things that were done in the past to really get a grasp on how things are run in Washington Local….and I did not have to go far to find out how bad things were run during the 2014 Issue 2 levy campaign.

We can all agree that when you operate in a certain environment, there are some things that are well known to anyone including rules and regulations. If you pay a lawyer, you expect them to know the laws and proper procedures. But it seems like "Levy 101" items at Washington Local are missed by the leaders who are paid to know what is OK and not OK. There are no excuses on why these laws are being violated, and there are questions that the citizens of the district need to ask the board members and their administration (I don’t live in the district).

Superintendent Patrick Hickey's lawyer asks resident to remove critical posts

Washington Local Superintendent has threatened to sue a resident of the district for critical posts she made on her blog and on social media. Today, a lawyer for Superintendent Patrick Hickey asked Washington Local resident to delete blog posts and comments she made on social media about Hickey. This morning, Terri Kern was sent the following cease and desist letter by Dennis Pergram of Delaware, Ohio:

======

Ms. Kern:

Superintendent Patrick Hickey has blocked me on Twitter

Ok, I went back to look at some of Patrick Hickey's Tweets and I saw he blocked me. We must have a professional here. Want to know what I said that made him block me? Wow, I would think he would have tougher skin than that. Strange that a Superintendent would block a member of the public like that only saying the obvious. Putting your head in the sand is not a solution.

This is one of the smartest books of the decade! It is thoughtful, entertaining and enlightening. Written by an investment industry “insider”, the author reveals industry weaknesses and hidden secrets,-notably how they pile on fee after fee, effectively lowering investor’s returns by up to 80%.
