opioid epidemic hits small town and rural Ohio hard

Tagged:

I will link to an article which delineates what a huge problem heroine and other opioid products have become in recent years. And, the main problem, in Ohio at least, is not in the central parts of our larger cities. The problem seems to be the worst, proportionately, in Ohio's small towns and rural areas!

Far too many charter schools are terrible; Ohio's are among the very worst!

I am adding two disclaimers here. First of all, although the long-time President of the American Federation of Teachers, Albert Shanker, was a strong advocate of the value of charter schools, long before they became a reality, because most modern charter schools have morphed into giant sinkholes where taxpayer money disappears, the American Federation of Teachers opposes most of the current state and federal statutes governing current charter schools. And this video came to me via the American Federation of Teachers.

Vicki Donovan-Lyle, Republican State Rep Candidate, Delinquent On Property Taxes

Vicki Donovan-Lyle, a Sylvania School Board Member, has apparently failed to pay her property taxes on her personal home at 4428 Tamworth Road in Sylvania, Ohio. In December 2015, Vicki Donovan-Lyle announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination to Ohio’s House District #47 to replace term-limited Representative Barbara Sears.

You have to run from the police to get shot, Just follow their instructions and you will get shot anyway

It's all over the news, but I'll post it anyway. If a Black Man during a routine traffic stop runs from the police he will get shot. If he follows the police's instructions he will still get shot.
To all those wonderful posters who insisted that the Black Man in S.C. should have stayed in his car, what explanation do you have for the murder by a policeman in Cincinnati?

Seriously. You have now lost the ability to say that Dems are making it all up.

Kasich's illegal appointment to Director of Health

Defend this, conservatives!

On Friday afternoon Kasich released a statement saying he was going to appoint Rick Hodges as Director of the Ohio Department of Health. Hodges, a former lawmaker, currently leads the Ohio Turnpike Commission. Hodges will be replacing Dr. Ted Wymyslo… and that “Dr.” part is kind of important.

According to Ohio Revised Code 121.10:

The director of health shall be either:

(A) A physician holding the degree of doctor of medicine from a medical college approved by the state medical board who, before assuming his duties, has been licensed to practice medicine in the state and who has had experience in pursuing some phase of medical practice;

(B) An individual who has had significant experience in the public health profession.

Ohio GOP is DOOMED

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - New census data show working-class whites now make up less than half of Ohio's eligible voters, a demographic change that has both parties expanding their efforts to reach other voters.

Unpublished 2014 census figures show about 4.1 million, or 48 percent, of eligible voters in Ohio are working-class whites. That's down from 50.5 percent in November 2012.

State Tax Cuts Don't Trickle Down

But the dramatic tax cutting doesn't appear to have done nearly as much for job growth as promised.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says that Wisconsin ranked 35th of the 50 states in job growth during the first three years of Scott Walker's term, and dead last among its immediate neighbors, including, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio.

Kansas hasn't fared much better. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the state's rate of job growth has lagged the national average since Brownback's tax cuts took effect.

Lucas County Republican Party of Clowns sues Husted

"The party's executive committee has filed what's called a *writ of mandamus* with the Ohio supreme court.

Party leaders want the justices to force Jon Husted to seat Kelly Bensman and Ben Roberts as the two new Republicans on the Lucas County Board of Elections.

Party chairman, Jon Stainbrook says, "This was simply to ask the secretary of state to finally do your job and seat the two people the executive committee, the leadership of the party would like to sit on the board of elections.""

http://www.13abc.com/story/25968839/lucas-county-republicans-sue-husted-...

what's taking Jon Husted so long?

Is there anything more frustrating than government inertia? Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has made it well-known that the Lucas County Board of Elections has taken up more of his time than all of the other counties combined. He's put together a special investigative committee and has asked for the resignations of election board members and employees (most of whom haven't complied)--and still there's no final resolution.

Interestingly, one of the members of Husted's special committee is the very person who refused to place Jon Stainbrook on the BOE back in early 2010--former Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner. Stainbrook's like a bad penny for her.

If you recall, there were two factions of the Republican Party in Lucas County in those days--the Stainbrook faction and the Jeffrey Simpson faction. As seems to be the norm, the Ohio Republican Party couldn't get its act together to decide which of these factions was "official." So each submitted a nominee for the Lucas County BOE and Brunner rejected them both and made her own appointment (Mr. Husted--hint, hint).

Ohio Taxpayers Beware: State Issue 1

There is no such thing as free money.....
=====================
Proposed Constitutional Amendment would further increase already-historically-high state spending, result in tax increases

Columbus, OH - The 1851 Center for Constitutional Law today took action to educate on and warn Ohio taxpayers of State Issue 1, which will appear on the May 6, 2014 primary ballot.

barbara sears must go

Barbara Sears epitomizes all that is wrong with politicians--all wrapped-up in one person--pretty impressive.

SHE DOESN'T LISTEN TO HER CONSTITUENTS-In November 2011, the anti-Obamacare Ohio Health Care Amendment won EVERY COUNTY and by a statewide margin of 21 percent. As a "representative," one might think that Sears should have surmised that Ohioans didn't want any part of government-run healthcare. Yet, she vigorously pursued one of the most important steps to implementing Obamacare to its fullest extent in Ohio--Medicaid expansion. She and Kasich couldn't get the legislature to vote in favor of this, so they went around the elected representatives and pushed it through via a 7-person Legislative Oversight Panel. In a few years, the federal money for this expansion will run out and Ohioans will be stuck paying for it. Thanks Barb. IF FOR NO OTHER REASON, THIS SHOULD BE ENOUGH FOR SEARS TO BE VOTED OUT--but wait--there's more!

Jim Tressel and UT Provost compete for the same job

What do former OSU football coach Jim Tressel and UT Provost Scott Scarborough have in common? Well, along with both being forced from their previous jobs as a result of scandals--they now are competing for the presidency of the University of Akron.

Tressel and Scarborough are among 19 applicants vying to be president of Akron (a link to a related article appears at the end of this posting). Tressel is currently UA's executive vice president for student success.

Obviously, the activities leading to Tressel's OSU departure were well-documented; but publicity regarding Scarborough's suspension and subsequent resignation from DePaul University was primarily limited to the Chicago media. In 2007, the DePaul Board of Trustees suspended Scarborough from his position as executive vice president for what a DePaul spokesman described as "Something we investigated thoroughly." Scarborough later resigned.

DePaul never publicly disclosed what he did, but Scarborough did not receive severance pay--which is very unusual for a person at his level of administration.

BARBARA SEARS MUST GO!

In November 2011, the most publicized issue on the Ohio ballot was Issue 2, which would have limited collective bargaining for public employees. It lost by a margin of 24 percentage points.

On that same ballot was the anti-Obamacare Issue 3. It won by a margin of 32 percent. It won in EVERY county in Ohio.

Apparently, State Representative Barbara Sears is unaware of these statistics--or more likely--doesn't care that her constituents voted to keep Obamacare at bay.

Earlier this year, Sears was the only Republican committee member to vote against a bill that was designed to provide an additional line of defense against Obamacare.

Sears didn't stop there. She has supported and introduced her own bills to expand Medicaid in the state at the expense of generations of future Ohioans. What was she thinking?
