Northwest Ohio

GuestZero's last post

I don't do this often, but this time, it is worth it.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform all of you that GuestZero won't be posting here anymore. It is not because of his behavior or language, but I have been told he passed away yesterday. GZ was someone I got to know online and offline, and he was a nice guy and is not as caustic as he appears online. He went out of his way to help the community, even been known to apprehend a robber or two making where ever he lived safer.

Even though he was not as caustic in person, he still believed in everything he posted online. Knowing the full picture of who he was, I always smiled the way he said things. It would be almost in the same way as a comedian would make a point in a sarcastic way; he would make points in his way. He loved the area and loved the schools and wanted to make them better. He did go above and beyond armchair quarterbacking and did things to make the community better in person.

He will be missed on this site and in real life. Thank you for everything you shared with us. :(

If you have a story about GZ either online or offline, feel free to share it.

Vicki Donovan-Lyle, Republican State Rep Candidate, Delinquent On Property Taxes

Vicki Donovan-Lyle, a Sylvania School Board Member, has apparently failed to pay her property taxes on her personal home at 4428 Tamworth Road in Sylvania, Ohio. In December 2015, Vicki Donovan-Lyle announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination to Ohio’s House District #47 to replace term-limited Representative Barbara Sears.

American Petroleum Institute spends millions in Toledo market

Tagged:

Have you heard or seen that American Petroleum Institute commercial telling you their has to be a balance? API is spending millions in Northwest Ohio media to convince you that fracking is safe. They give an image of an industry that works for the American good. This is false and anyone who has seen what the power of Oil & Gas has done to Eastern Ohio would be shocked. The industry is under attack from landowners across the state and county. The greed supersedes the will of property owners rights. The last three months local media has enjoyed a bonanza in ad revenue from big Oil & Gas.

Quote from article:
As Amazon.com Inc. moves forward with a billion-dollar project to build a trio of data centers in central Ohio for its web services subsidiary, the online retail giant will simultaneously develop a wind farm in Paulding County to help power them.

Anyone here attend the big party last night in honor of the Hick?

Anyone here attend the the big party that some of the loyal Kool-aid drinkers gave for their
messiah Patrick "too familiar" Hickey" last night at Pat and Dandy's? It was a gala event.
Bumhower was there as well as assistant super Cherie Mourlam. The was a lot of hugging going on in between the tears of joy by his followers. They must of been congratulating him for beating the rap and making fools out of the BOE and the taxpayers. Mourlam, a Hick

Patrick Hickey resigns

The Washington Local School board voted 5-0 to accept Patrick Hickey's resignation this evening closing his almost 8 year stint as superintendent of Washington Local Schools.

It is not illegal or against sunshine and ethics laws to leak executive session information

I am shocked at the discussions happening about it being criminal to leak executive session information by board members. It has gotten to a point that two people filed Ohio Ethics Commission complaints alleging a Washington Local Board member is doing something illegal and against Ohio ethics laws. Superintendent Hickey is also alleging he will want to make similar complaints (Hickey should know better).

Is the library needed anymore? Amazon Prime is cheaper for me than county library

I was recently asked a question about renting videos recently, and it got me thinking about how much I pay for the Lucas County libraries. After some investigation and understanding how much subscription services cost, one has to wonder if the library is even needed anymore.

Marcy Kaptur misses more votes than most other Ohio lawmakers

According to a Sandusky Register review of ProPublica data, Marcy has one of the worst voting attendance record out of any the other lawmakers in the state of Ohio. Only one is worse than her.

Hey Sandusky Register, who cares? Marcy could stop going to DC at all and she will still be re-elected. But Marcy does care about Timberstone Junior High students. She missed a vote last year to try to find them.

U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, has missed more votes during the current session of Congress than almost every other member of Ohio's House delegation.

Kaptur supports GOP safe screening bill for Syrian refugees

According to Cleveland.com Marcy is one of the supporters of the safe screening proposal by House Republicans.

=======

Northeast Ohio Democrats Tim Ryan and Marcy Kaptur were among 47 Democrats who joined with the majority of House Republicans on Thursday to pass a controversial bill that would increase government background checks done before Syrian or Iraqi refugees are admitted to the United States.

Marcy's statement:

When talking about a public figure goes from free speech to libel

There is a site out there about Patrick Hickey and Jeremy Baumhower which probably steps across the lines of what is acceptable and what is not. Public figures have a high threshold to prove slander and libel and they have to prove there is malice in the presentation of speech. In this context, the phrase refers to knowledge or reckless lack of investigation, rather than its ordinary meaning of malicious intent.

Hickey placed on leave again

According to the Blade:

Washington Local Schools Superintendent HIckey placed on paid leave again

The Washington Local Schools board of education has launched a new investigation of its embattled superintendent and placed him on paid leave while the board looks into new, unspecified allegations against him.

Patrick Hickey left the district’s administrative center on Lincolnshire Boulevard after a closed-door executive session tonight. He did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Charges filed against Jeremy Baumhower - what we know and what we don't know

One of the area's biggest bloggers, Jeremy Baumhower, was charged with domestic violence just over a week ago. There has not been much written about it, so here is a chance to clear the air and I will keep this thread up-to-date with the latest.

Washington Local reprimands Greenwood principal Bill Colon for illegal campaigning during open house

Terri Kern was able to pull this nugget of information out from Washington Local and I would have to applaud them for doing the right thing. This is much more than what Sylvania did when their employees were caught campaigning during school hours. Attached is the written reprimand of Bill Colon for making announcements during open house advocating for candidates.

Washington Local School Board race

Other than the Toledo Mayoral race, the next election that is getting the most discussion is the Washington Local School Board. Here is why this election is important:

School boards need to be the group in charge of a school district, and when you have an administration that seems to run roughshod around rules without care for consequences, it is time for the school board to re-assert itself. The superintendent is an employee of the board, not the other way around this is a fact that some out there seem to want to ignore.

Your thoughts on the fall 2015 election - endorsements, anti-endorsements

Others have had their say on what you should support, but now it is time for you to sound off. There are lots of important races on the ballot this fall including mayorships, city council, school boars and issues. Who deserves our vote and who should we stay away from?

See for yourself, the official looking letter Lindsay Webb used endorse candidate

I know this is late, but wanted to put this out there so you can see the letter behind the story. So, what do you think?

The Problem With WSPD 1370

The question is not if Washington Local violated state law during its Issue 2 levy campaign in 2014, but to what extent

Updated with Patrick Hickey's statement

My curiosity was stirred in watching everything going on at Washington Local and stirred even more once Superintendent Patrick Hickey blocked me on Twitter for stating the obvious. Seeing a disturbing behavior here I decided to look at some things that were done in the past to really get a grasp on how things are run in Washington Local….and I did not have to go far to find out how bad things were run during the 2014 Issue 2 levy campaign.

We can all agree that when you operate in a certain environment, there are some things that are well known to anyone including rules and regulations. If you pay a lawyer, you expect them to know the laws and proper procedures. But it seems like "Levy 101" items at Washington Local are missed by the leaders who are paid to know what is OK and not OK. There are no excuses on why these laws are being violated, and there are questions that the citizens of the district need to ask the board members and their administration (I don’t live in the district).
