We fought long and hard to make sure this day would never come, but it’s with a heavy heart that I must announce Toledo Free Press is closing.

NorthWest OHIO JOURNAL Nexus Pipeline

NW OHIO JOURNAL Nexus Pipeline Aired: 04/02/2015 The recent proposals for numerous pipelines to move the gas has created some controversy. Here to talk about their concerns are Liz Athaide-Victor of the Coalition to Reroute Nexus (corn), Swan Creek Township Trustee Rick Kazmierczak and Fulton county resident Walter Lange. http://video.wbgu.org/video/2365457361/

Quote:
"A lot of people have used this data to argue that transporting oil via pipelines is safer than rail. And that’s true, if your idea of safety is defined by the frequency of accidents, regardless of how large the accidents are. If, however, you think massive releases of oil into the environment pose a greater risk to human health, than pipelines are the greater evil."

State auditor's probe to end soon on Sylvania Schools levy campaign

Latest update:
=======

The Ohio Auditor’s office is wrapping up its investigation into how Sylvania Schools staff and resources were used last year to campaign for a school levy, which was rejected by voters.

A spokesman for the state office, Carrie Bartunek, confirmed for the first time that the office was investigating, but declined to provide details of findings or say when the work may be completed.

Majority of Republican Central Committee members recruited by Stainbrook didn’t vote in November Election

Does anyone think this was not the case? :)
=====
Republican Governor John Kasich and the Ohio GOP may not care that over half of the Lucas County Republican Party Central Committee (LCRP-CC) members recruited by Jon Stainbrook did not vote in the November General Election.

Follow-up: What the Sylvania School district is doing to address levy campaign issues

Back in November I followed up with the district to see what they put in place to address the problems with the Issue 3 campaign in 2014. Brad Rieger sent the following response:

We had legal counsel conduct a levy training at our Admin Team retreat this past August. Whenever we are on the ballot again, we'll do a similar session for the levy committee. I foresee a communication about levy protocols going out to all staff members at that time also.

Ohio Wind Farms: The results

AT CROSSWIND

Quote from article:
The projects, known as Timber Road Wind Farm and Blue Creek Wind Farm, are still young. But, according to managers of both, they’re already performing.

“The (Blue Creek) project has delivered what we said it would,” said Dan Litchfield, senior project developer.
Production Results

That includes about $2.7 million in annual tax payments, $2 million annually in lease agreement payments, $600 million from the company that built the farm, and enough energy to power about 76,000 homes.

The scourge of term limits

I am posting a link to a recent article in the Detroit Free Press. One of the most significant issues with which it deals is the issue of term limits for elected officials. The writer purports that partisan redistricting and term limits have severely limited the ability of Michigan's voters to affect their government.
IMHO the same applies to Ohio voters and Ohio state government. I have often stated that the only thing term limits truly accomplish is to limit the choices voters have for elected offices. But this writer puts in into the context of the real situation in Michigan today.

Did the name ring a bell with anyone else ? ? ?

Was reading through the Blade this morning and happened upon this story of a shooting in West Toledo.

Wondered if the victim's name seemed familiar to anyone else.

Cleanup time

I am tired of the "shoot everyone until the last one standing" approach to commenting here. Over the next several months expect some changes - one immediate change is that if you can't follow the commenting rules you are off for at least two weeks - it started this morning and will go back in time 32 hrs.

It is not going to require much to do this - all of you have been warned, so there does not need to be any more "please clean up your act." The worst offenders know very well what the problems are and justify their breaking the rules because others break the rules. I am going back through my flags and anything over the last 32 hrs. A newbie may get some guidance, but those who have been here and have been warned, well don't expect any warnings.

toledoans are in deep denial about Jeep

There's a popular riddle that goes like this: A young boy and his father are in a car accident. The father dies at the scene. The boy is transported to the hospital and taken immediately into surgery, but the surgeon steps out of the operating room and says, "I can't operate on this boy--he's my son!" Who's the surgeon?

It's likely that in today's society more people would come up with the answer compared to 30 or more years ago. Of course, the surgeon is the boy's mother.

Just as this riddle requires thinking outside of the stereotypical box, Toledoans need to get a grip on the reality of Jeep leaving Toledo. Many of the arguments for why Jeep will/should stay in Toledo are gullible--at best.

Toledo has the skilled workers needed to produce Jeeps--Why would a state-of-the-art production facility making aluminum unibody Jeeps need production line workers?

Toledo is Jeep and Jeep is Toledo--Do people honestly think this means anything to Fiat?

Keep Jeep in Toledo!

Yesterday a bombshell was dropped on Toledo. Denny Schaffer 105.5 interview with Bruce Baumhower https://soundcloud.com/dsnorulesradio/the-denny-schaffer-show-bruce-baum... CEO Sergio Marchionne made the statement at the Paris car show that Fiat is making plans to make a new unibody independently suspended ALUMINUM bodied Wrangler. Now if that's not enough to scare the bejebus out of the four wheel drive market Sergio continued to say it may not be built in Toledo. HOLY SHIT!

Dennis Schaffer back in Toledo competing with Fred Lefebvre for Toledo morning radio ratings.

Former ClearChannel Toledo radio boss Andy Stuart now Cumulus radio boss is bringing back the morning Breakfast Club. Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, Mr. Schaffer will host a new, four-hour morning talk show on Cumulus Media’s WWWM-FM Star 105, along with former sidekicks Tricia Courtney Tischler and Suzie Moser. The only one missing is Fred Lefebvre who will be competing on the ClearChannel AM 1370. Looks like WSPD is the loser here!
