Ben Konop

Chicken Sh*t Fred!

So Ben decides to quit

Ben has decided to not run for another term, citing the "old boy's network" for not allowing his agenda to work. Will he actually go away, or is this an attempt at gathering sympathy to see if he would run again. I have a feeling he wouldn't have won if he were to run again. I was going to write about what I think of Ben Konop and some of his fresh "ideas", however, I think Maggie Thurber had a good discussion of this over at her Blog, Thurber's Thoughts.

Another person who will Boo Ben - crash victim

Ben is being sued by a crash victim for injuries.

Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop was sued in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday for damages relating to a 2007 chain-reaction car crash that he caused while driving without insurance.

Konop and Grossman Plead for PAID Sick Days

From the Toledo Blade Letters to the Editor: November 22, 2009

Headline: Let sick workers stay home

As a nation and a region, we are battling uniquely difficult circumstances created by a harsh economic recession and a national health emergency — the spread of the H1N1 flu.

Call it a request or a suggestion, but to avoid having one problem compound the other here in Lucas County, we’d like all workers to be able to stay home when they’re sick with the flu.

Gerken and the Dog Warden Controversy

Today, Pete Gerken and Tina Skeldon Wozniak denied Ben Konop's motion to remove Tom Skeldon as dog warden. (not sure if Tina had a conflict of interest there).

http://abclocal.go.com/wtvg/story?section=news/local&id=7110995

One could say this vote was predictable. Putting aside Tina's possible conflict of interest, we should take a look at the other commissioner's past statements.

Scary Larry - it's a sign

Larry Sykes, most likely the dumbest person to have ever held elected office in the area as well as one of the biggest racists in Lucas County, has ticked off a lot of people. He has ticked off so many people that one person took his/her time to create a sign highlighting Larry's comments using one of Ben Konop's large signs, and then nailed it up on at least one telephone pole (in the Broadway/Segur area to be specific). A user on this site had the opportunity to see it and grabbed it for me. I really wish I knew about this before the election because I would be happy to have posted this before. The poster, which you can see a larger version of by clicking on the attachment below, details Larry's wonderful remarks about Anita Lopez, calling her a Mexican and only able to get jobs because she was a Mexican and a female (again those are Larry's words not mine). Anyway, now that he is back on the school board, for the next 4 years he will be sure to cause much embarrassment and humiliation to the board and the district given his past antics. Everyone have your cameras ready because Larry Sykes is a viral video waiting to happen.

Booing of Ben worth the price of admission

According to the Independent Collegian writer, this was one of the highlights of the game. This was first reported here.

From the crowd’s excitement when the players entered through a tunnel spouting streams of blue and yellow fire, to the throwing of fish on to the ice after a Toledo goal, and even from the reigning of “boos” on to Mayoral Candidate Ben Konop before the game, the environment is in itself worth the price of admission.

Bell, Wilkowski Enter The "Lair Of Rush Limbaugh" On Thursday

Mayoral candidates Mike Bell and Keith Wilkowski will be on with me in the morning for final interviews before the primary on next Tuesday. The "lair" line comes from young Ben Konop who on his first scary visit to WSPD uttered those immortal words.

Facebook Interaction

A Ben Konop supporter, David Cole, sent me these messages via FaceBook notes. Notice the attempt at civil and intelligent discussion he uses to convince me that his candidate is worthy of the mayor's office.

Toledo Blade Letters to the Editor
Mayoral candidate Ben Konop can be commended for saying he chooses to take the high ground and not respond to the abuse being dished out by WSPD Radio. The issue that really should be looked at has less to do with Mr. Konop than the cynical and condescending commentary masquerading as news that is so frequently heard on WSPD.

Konop and Block: A path to decline

[From the Development News Editorial - 9-2009]
The upcoming Toledo mayoral election will determine if John Robinson Block, The Blade publisher and editor-in-chief, retains his dominant impact on direction and control of affairs in the city. Block needs an individual in the mayor’s office who will obey his direction. Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop is a politician and mayoral candidate that offers the newspaper and Block a chance to increase their power and control.

Ben Konop Receiving Threats - IS WSPD Involved?

Armed deputy guards are providing security for Mayoral Candidate Ben Konop. According to an article in the Toledo Blade as well as being reported by WTOL News, WSPD radio host Brian Wilson broadcasted Konop's personal cell phone number over the air.

In addition, a man approached Konop inside Government Center, and he had a knife in his waist band.

Ben Konop Dropping Out Of Mayoral Race?

I just seen on 13ABC News tonight that Ben Konop will be having a press conference tomorrow morning at 11 AM at Government Center, to announce a major campaign announcement.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

Is Ben Konop dropping out of the race?

Konop asks Youtube video be taken off Web

Konop asks Youtube video be taken off Web

A video posted on Youtube.com showing Toledo mayoral candidate Ben Konop "fighting" a heckler who falls and rolls on an American flag was removed from the site less than a day after it was posted. The video posted Wednesday at 4:08 p.m, was titled "Ben Konop Kicks the Nachos Out of Hecklers."

Is this a way to treat the United States flag?

Clips from the original video:

I saw this on Thurber's Thoughts under the post "Konop tramples the U.S. Flag"

Toledo would-be politician makes cable clip show

Yep, our own Ben Konop's Boo Ben Boo clip has made it to the latest episode of "Web Soup" a clip show spinoff of Comedy Central's popular "The Soup" hosted by Joel McCale. Where The Soup is a clip show highlighting goofy things that make it to the TV, Web Soup is all about clips that go viral on the 'net. Which, IMHO, is the perfect venue for Toledo politics.

You can view Web Soup locally on channel 222. Check your local guide.

Children of Liberty candidate forum

The Children of Liberty held their second candidate forum tonight at the Sylvania Branch library in Sylvania Ohio. The candidates who spoke were Ben Konop, Kevin Milliken, and PREZ Washington. Other candidates in attendance were John Adams and Michael Watson. There were about 30 people at the event this evening.

I Twittered the event which you can see here:
