Paper reveals SC gov's romantic e-mail exchange

A newspaper publishing the private e-mails of the SC Governor. I thought only bloggers did this, especially given the righteous lectures you heard in NW Ohio :)

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Just after South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admitted to a yearlong extramarital affair, his state's largest newspaper posted online romantic, suggestive e-mails that it says were exchanged between the chief executive and his Argentinian lover.

The State of Columbia redacted the full name of the woman, identifying her only as "Maria," but their contents clearly show they were more than friends.

Why my actions do not measure up to the Stainbrook level

Brian Schwartz and even Lisa Renee said when the whole blog post situation came out that my actions were similar to Jon Stainbrook which is why I deserve criticism. I disagree with this statement because of why I seek information and for what purposes. Jon Stainbrook seeks information/documentation to entrap people to humiliate them later, like the secret recordings of Lynn Olman and Joanne Wack. In both of those cases, evidence was obtained by entrapping the person into saying something then posting the evidence later.

Blogging in shades of clear gray

Since I did not do a good job at explaining my reasonings of the postings, I spent some time talking about them in the Free Press column this week titled "Blogging in shades of clear gray". Below is a slightly fatter version of that column. The Free Press had to get a certain word count so this one is a bit heavier.

Can Carty's flak explain trouble with 'bubbles'?

A few years ago, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner wanted to bring Wi-Fi to Toledo, even before - by his own admission - he'd brought himself to the Internet.

At the time, Hizzoner's city hall aerie had no functioning computer, a tidbit I gleaned from the mayor's then-spokesman, Brian Schwartz - and what made me think back on all of this is the current mayoral spokesman, Jason Webber.

Why it is wrong to say someone lied through hearsay

Lisa Renee, in the comments on her post about the PIO postings, made an interesting leap that I was saying two stories to her and the media based on very shaky reasonings. She went and posted on her blog some of the tidbits of information on the conversation I had with her but the interesting thing was the timing. Only an hour after I taped the interview on 13abc, Lisa made the pronouncement that I changed my story, which was really strange since she was not there and she said it before the broadcast.

How can Carty's spokesperson help when he thinks Carty is digging his political grave? - updated

Jason Webber, the current spokesperson for the City of Toledo, must have a difficult job. On Jason's Myspace blog he says Carty is digging his political grave in a post titled "Workin’ for the man...":
