University of Toledo Board of Trustees approves Jacobs' restructuring plan

UT's Board of Trustees approved President Lloyd Jacobs' restructuring plan on Monday. The plan will split the College of Arts and Sciences into three colleges and combine the College of Education with the College of Health Science and Human Service. The plan will also create new schools that work across colleges.

UT's statement on the point shaving scandal

Dear Alumni and Friends:

The University of Toledo has received word that federal authorities have indicted six
foriner athletes on charges relating to an alleged "point shaving" scheme, between December 2004 and December 2006.

Let me say from the begimaing that we take this matter seriously, however we also
consider it past history. We will continue to cooperate fully with all law enforcement agencies.

Las Vegas, Nevada (April 24,2009) – According to court documents, former Toledo reserve running back Adam Cuomo has admitted to being a key figure in an alleged point-shaving scheme. Last year, Sammy Villegas, a former Toledo basketball player, was charged with fixing games between 2004 - 2006, and is scheduled to be sentenced this summer. Previously, former Toledo running back Harvey "Scooter" McDougle was charged on a similar offense, although that charge was dropped due to a “procedural matter.”

UT College Republicans To Host FairTax Information Session

Toledo, OH, 4/19/09 -- On April 28, the University of Toledo College Republicans will be hosting an informational presentation on the proposed FairTax bill. A representative from the Ohio FairTax Association will discuss the issues and inefficiencies with the current
tax code and the positive solutions that the association feels the FairTax could provide. Admission to the event is free and will be held in the University's Student Union room 2591 beginning at 7:00 pm.

Toledo Municipal Court Session at UT Enhances Classroom Experience

Area high school mock trial teams and University of Toledo paralegal students will get a first-hand look at the justice system when the Toledo Municipal Court holds a special session at The University of Toledo Thursday, March 26, from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.

Judge Michael R. Goulding will commence court in UT’s Richard B. and Jane McQuade Mock Trial Courtroom, located in the Health and Human Services Building, Room 1419.

I was forwarded a tip from a concerned citizen about what is going on with Ben Konop at UT. I will be doing some follow-up but the concerns were about the time that Ben spends on his commissioner job while working at UT, his pay, and his ethics pledge.

Alt energy company SuGanit receives million dollar grant

I think I recall hearing of the University of Toledo Clean & Alternative Energy Incubator before:

Reston, Va.-based SuGanit Systems Inc. was awarded a $999,900 grant from the Ohio Third Frontier Advanced Energy Program, an Ohio Department of Development fund, to scale up its cellulosic ethanol biomass pretreatment and fermentation processes. SuGanit Systems operates a research and development center at the University of Toledo Clean & Alternative Energy Incubator in Toledo, Ohio.
