Take Back Toledo

Carty is Exactly Right, Good Luck Mike Bell!

Strickland governs frugally
http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091114/OPINION03...
A recent headline in The Blade read: "Jobless rate soars to highest since 1983." The Blade's editorial followed, challenging Gov. Ted Strickland to create jobs or beware of his re-election.

The Blade's editorial writer should be smarter than that. And fairer than that.

If George Bush and Barack Obama, with all their clout, can't create private sector jobs, how can a governor be expected to do so?

Coincidence?

Rumor has it that many people that signed the recall petition by Take Back Toledo, are now receiving citations, fines and warnings from the city for being in violation of various city codes. Could this be just coincidence or do the rumors hold some truth?

Justice for Carty

The Toledo Blade
July 30, 2009
FROM the beginning, there was nothing honest about the attempt to recall Mayor Carty Finkbeiner just two months before his term would have ended. In the end, it was simple justice when the state's high court ended that misguided effort. (MORE) http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090730/OPINION02...

Dave Shultz Exemplifies Typical Toledo Problem

Not quite sure what the motivation for Dave Shultz attempt at challenging the TBT recall petition. First, you have some of Toledo's most successful business leaders create this group, perform their due-diligence with the process, complete the petition gathering, AND get them turned in BEFORE the deadline.

The latest on the petition counting

In what is akin to watching a Le Mans race, the petition counting is still going on and everyone is on pins and needles waiting to see if TBT will make the count. While that was reported on today and is nothing new, what is interesting is what the Free Press is reporting that the Clerk of Council is seeking the outside opinion of a lawyer. The lawyer, Don McTigue, seems to have already proven before that without the wording that the petions may be invalid. Is this telegraphing how the clerk will rule? Needless to say everyone will be watching how this unfolds.

Schulz calls for invalidation of recall petitions

#TBTOL As you saw on some of the discussion here, Dave has formally written the Board of Elections to ask that they invalidate the recall petitions.

The Toledo Free Press has more:

===

Schulz sent the following e-mail to Lucas County Board of Elections and City Clerk of Council Jerry Dendinger April 12:

40-45,500 said Carty has to go

#TBTOL To put that in perspective, Carty (the endorsed Democrat), won in 2005 with 48899 votes (PDF). Congrats TBT.

Would Popular Protest Get Carty to Resign?

If we really believe that Carty is the problem with Toledo, then why have there been no mass protests? Eastern European nations faced the guns of their police and armed forces to protest their governments, and get them removed. Perhaps it is time that thousands of Toledoans took to the streets, and protested the lethargic response to governing from the 22nd floor of Government Center. Will we wait while TBT glacially moves to solve this problem, or gather to protest the governance of this city?

Take Back Toledo in West Toledo

The Take Back Toledo semi showed up in West Toledo this afternoon, and it seemed like a decent amount of folks turned out. Interestingly, Secor Road was down to one lane of traffic for both northbound and southbound motorists - is this just coincidental, or was this a strategic deployment of road construction personnel designed to interfere with signature-gathering?

You decide.

Today Southland Kroger Was The Site of Mayor Recall Petition Drive

Today petitioners were out trying to get signatures to get a recall petition on the ballot. I ran into about three of them at the entrance to the Kroger's at Southland. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
