New Garbage Cans

According to the Toledo Blade dated May 14th, starting today until June 8th, citizens can make the choice of what type of trash container that they want to use for the new automatic trash pickup at their homes. The city reccommends the 96 gal. size, however you can notify the city , or pick up the smaller size at the suggested sites. Those who do not want to participate in the recycling program are to call the division of solid waste so that the recycling bins are not delivered to their homes.

9 is fine campaign launched today

Today there was a major press conference announcing the 9 is fine campaign to reduce the size of Toledo City Council. The plan will eventually reorganize the council into 6 districts and 3 super-districts. If passed in September, the at-large contingent will be reduced to 3 from the current 6 members serving a 2-year bridging term. After the 2010 census apportionment the 3 super-districts will be drawn up consisting of 2 of the 6 current districts.

Now Really Confused

On May 1st, the news media announced that only 75 policemen would be laid off. According to the Mayor, the stimulus money would be used to keep the remaining 75 policemen, instead of purchasing police equipment .
On May 2nd, our dear Mayor announced "that if City Council did not accept his budget, by May 31, then he had no option to layoff more officers on June 1st. Some members of City Council want to see the Mayor and the unions set down and negotiate contracts, which end December 31st, before asking citizens to dig deeper within their pockets.

Fires Fires Fires!!!!

Has anyone noticed all the Arson fires through out the city? Every night a vacant house goes up in flames. I find this just a little curious, especially at a time when safety forces could be reduced. I would be curious to know if last year at this time how many vacant house fires there have been. Very interesting........
