COLUMBUS - The Ohio Supreme Court yesterday agreed to mull the issue of whether cities may require their employees to live within their borders.
The court agreed to hear appeals of rulings involving the cities of Lima and Akron that struck down a 2006 state law prohibiting residency mandates when it comes to most city employees.
The case marks the latest battle over cities' constitutional power of home rule to make it to the high court. The justices will hear arguments in both cases on the same day.
