Obama's campaign in Ohio hit by claims of double-dealing

Hillary Clinton sought to skewer Barack Obama on the eve of critical voting in Ohio and Texas, pointing to a leaked memo purportedly showing that his campaign recently gave a "wink-wink" to the government of Canada that promises he has made to renegotiate trade deals need not be taken seriously.

With polls showing them in a dead heat in both states, Mrs Clinton has been ratcheting up her attacks on Mr Obama on issues ranging from free trade, health care, the economy and national security. Today may be do-or-die for the former first lady as she tries to end Mr Obama's 11-state winning streak.

The trade imbroglio centres on a Canadian embassy memo leaked to the Associated Press showing that a chief economic adviser to Mr Obama offered reassurances that anything he had said on the campaign trail "should be viewed as more about political positioning than a clear articulation of policy plans".

Harper denies meddling in U.S. presidential primaries
OTTAWA/DALLAS - Prime Minister Stephen Harper fended off allegations Monday that his government deliberately meddled in the U.S. primaries by trying to undermine Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's stand on the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Obama aides on defensive over Canadian memo
The Democratic presidential contenders argued Monday over whether an adviser to Sen. Barack Obama told Canadian officials that much of the debate during the campaign over trade has been political posturing, and if so, what that says about Obama. The dispute has entangled Canadian officials as well, who now say Obama and his aides have not suggested he has any different opinion about trade in private than he has in public.

Blame in Canada
OTTAWA — It’s not at all unusual for Stephen Harper, the prime minister of Canada, and the members of his cabinet to grilled by the opposition parties in Parliament. It isn’t common, however for the partisan bickering here to be focused on the Democratic primary in the United States.

Two Canadian Diplomats, One Evasion by Obama
For the past four days, Obama and his campaign staff members have been strenuously denying a story first aired by Canadian television on Feb. 27. The story has gone through several versions. In its original form, CTV said that a "top staffer" from the Obama campaign had telephoned the Canadian ambassador to warn him that the candidate would soon be speaking out against the North American Free Trade Agreement, the 1993 pact between the United States, Canada and Mexico. The staff member allegedly told the ambassador that "the criticisms would only be campaign rhetoric and should not be taken at face value."

S'truth. Hitlery has gotten herself into a corner. She doesn't dare run the campaign as originally planned, because that would involve heavy criticism of Obama Bin Campaigning - which would make Hitlery a - (wait for it) - racist. I'm waiting for the famous Obama vs. Hitlery debate, when Obama pisses Hitlery off so much that she loses her professional visage of self-control and whizzes her microphone at his head. Now that would be a debate worth seeing.

This brouhaha over who said what to whom about NAFTA, pushed aggressively by the Clinton campaign, has taken on high level international dimensions. Canadian dirty tricks?:

Prime Minister Stephen Harper fended off allegations Monday that his government deliberately meddled in the U.S. primaries by trying to undermine Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s stand on the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Despite Harper’s attempts at damage control, the controversy spilled over into the politics of both countries Monday. Hillary Clinton, facing a final defeat at Obama’s hands, sought to exploit the controversy on the eve of key primaries in Texas and Ohio.

We've been down the path of Canada meddling in our internal affairs once before -- and were led out of it by Kyle's mother (Two Warnings: 1) It's South Park so NSFW -- and 2) if you get this song in your head, you'll be singing it all night):
