Recent events in Colorado and Oklahoma show that these well intended signs accomplish nothing. Shooters pay no attention to them .
I was chatting with a sheriff deputy at a basketball game. He leaves his firearm home when he goes out shopping. He puts himself at risk when he does this, many of the local yahoos know him because he works at the jail too.
So these stores are disarming our law enforcement officers too. I will be talking to store owners about this when I shop .
'No guns allowed here' placards in local stores and malls

they could also put up some NO SHOPLIFTING signs too - I wonder why nobody ever thought of that before??
Is there a penalty if you take a concealed firearm into a store with those signs posted?
There used to be an actual legal penalty, but some court sensibly struck that stupid shit down. If the store owner or some other employee does see that you're armed, they do have every right to demand that you leave, and you'll have to do so or it will constitute trespassing ... but the demand or detection don't have a legal consequence.
The CCW folks were issuing their own signs a while ago, which used the same icons, but the text said things like "DEFENSE-FREE ZONE" and "all customers of this establishment have been disarmed for your convenience". Lotsa laffs!
I could just see it if the stores allowed guns in on their premises. A bunch of "gangstas" walking down the mall with guns visibly tucked into the front of their pants would have every middle age suburbanites running for the hill...
SensorG: That's just what happened in Columbus during the demonstration for CCW reform during the Christmas season. Gun owners used the Ohio open carry law and did all their shopping while packing heat.
I guess that makes them all gangstas, right?
