A Monroe woman is suing her husband because, she says, he threw a carrot at her during an argument, poking out her left eye.
In the lawsuit, filed in Bridgeport Superior Court on Wednesday, Pamela Vecsey says the injury from by the carrot caused a permanent loss of vision in her eye.
"This was a very unfortunate accident. Mrs. Vecsey has been permanently injured and we hope this suit can be resolved amicably," said Joel Faxon, the lawyer representing Vecsey.
According to court documents, Vecsey and her husband, 48-year-old Roderick Vecsey, were arguing on July 14, 2006, in their Woods Row home when Roderick Vecsey threw a carrot at his wife from about 20 feet away, striking her in the left eye.
Faxon said the carrot ruptured his client's eyeball. As a result, he said, the eye was removed and his client now has a glass eye in its place. The lawsuit claims the woman's injury was the result of the "carelessness and negligence" of her husband.
Roderick Vecsey was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. The charges against him were later dropped after his wife refused to cooperate with her husband's prosecution, contending the incident had been an accident.
Roderick Vecsey's lawyer, Michael Meehan, said the criminal case is over and refused to comment on the lawsuit.
Ok wait... she refused to cooperate with the criminal charges, saying it was just an accident but still wants to try and sue the guy? I also don't see anywhere in the post where it says he is now her EX husband so if they are still married what good does it do to sue him since you're still married and sharing assets?
well then i hope she tries to get him for all he's worth. :) i wonder at what point will she realize this? imagine them sitting at the kitchen table discussing bills and how much she plans on suing him right after they discuss how long it will take to pay the car off. :)
I'd tell her where she can put that carrot. The cops could also charge him with assault with lethal carrot!
... is to require testing and licensing before people buy carrots.
GZ, what kind of testing do you think should be done? :)
Basic Carrot Safety can be determined by putting the applicant through stressful situations with carrots (and other domestic vegetables) and seeing if they restrain themselves to cooking, peeling, blanching and other culinary actions, and do NOT revert to some savagery involving using the vegetables as improvised missiles and knives.
Hey, you asked. 8^P
Anybody see the movie "Shoot em up"?
Maybe people would have to show proof that they were mentally 'intact' - no domestic abuse charges, etc. before they could be allowed to purchase carrots?
The way I took the article, was that the wife had originally sued her husband, but then changed her mind & dropped the charges - perhaps after the shock of seeing him arrested & hauled away in hand-cuffs made her re-think it & she remembered what a great guy he is most of the time (when he's not throwing temper tantrums & carrots? I think a lot of domestic abuse cases used to get dropped when they actually made it to court because the wife had second thoughts, forgave the jerk, etc. - but perhaps also because she feared retaliation by him later on. I thought the courts had stopped allowing women to drop domestic abuse charges against their mates because there were too many women dropping charges after the fact - wasting court time, etc. & the abusers went free to do it again.
Then again, if this is Monroe, Michigan - Michiganers are nuts anyway (my husband is a Michiganer so I can say that). They're great for killing off entire families or hacking their wives into pieces. (just joking here).
I say let the victim sue the people who sell the carrots! Then go after the carrot producers!!
