Lucas County Commissioner's

Tagged:  •    •

I was reading in the Toledo Free Press today an article Ben Konop wrote in regards to his proposal for transferring funds from the corrupt LCIC to the University of Toledo, and how this plan was thwarted by the usual suspects, Pete Gerken and Tina Skeldon-Wozniak. My first thought was, when are these goons going to be voted out of office.

So I got on the Lucas County web site and noticed that both their terms end 01/01/09, which I thought was the case but thought I would verify.

Are there any candidates for filling these spots? I hadn't heard anything in the news.

Either I must have missed the news while blinking, or there is no one standing up to take these seats.

Anyone care to fill me in?

could be replaced by anyone who is: A) breathing and B) of average intelligence and honesty. It is much more likely that the incumbents will be re-elected, mainly because the average person doesn't know what the county commissioner does for them, or does to them, which in this case is nothing that could be termed even remotely beneficial for anyone in Lucas county.

Do you doubt me? Consider that these are the very same people that elected Carty Finkbeiner. Also consider that the alternative was Jack Ford.

Pete Gerken is a union guy and he's in. Tina trades off her Skeldon maiden name and she's supported by The Blade. She's in. Both are favorites of The Blade. It's hard to be a maverick and iconoclast in this town when you go up against the only newspaper. Those little old blue-haired ladies just cut out the Blade's endorsed candidates from the paper and pull the appropriate levers in the voting booth.

Oh absolutely, I don't disagree at all, but my question was has anyone even said they were going to run? Are they running again, and if they are, are they running uncontested?

Last time around there were three people running ( Ben, Tim Wagener, and I think Phil Copeland?). But I haven't heard of anyone running in this instance.
