Now will you shut the hell up, Pete??

It's about time. Now we'll maybe learn what really happened.

Two

count 'em, TWO misdemeanors. Well, it's pretty clear that the government doesn't want to send the wrong message to the police department.

Misdemeanors or not, this is likely the end of Sgt Chevalia's career in the Lima PD.

And at 52 years old, I'm sure one of the command officers of the LPD has done the math on saving money on Sgt Chevalia's salary and retirement.

Is this just? Probably not. But at least the semi-scapegoat receives a punishment.

The larger issue is that the Lima SWAT force may do nothing different in response to any outcome here. Whatever happened to the social mores of the WWII generation that said hitting (much less, shooting-to-death) a woman was not acceptable?

No one knows for sure what happened in that house. It's hard to imagine a veteran cop just trained his gun on a young woman holding a youngster and decided to fire. There were plenty of witnesses to the shooting, I'm sure, household guests and cops alike. Let's let this thing play out in the court and hope that justice prevails. It's bothersome that the cop was indicted only on negligence and would have only a few months behind bars if convicted. Perhaps he did aim and shoot to kill. But none of us were in the room with the grand jury. We don't know what non-cop witnesses were called to testify or what they told jurors. The whole thing is just g-- d--- tragic.

in the room to know that a young woman is dead and her baby severely injured by being shot by a policeman.

I am curious as to the subtext of your above posting. Would you mind clarifying?

my bad I read it wrong.

Sorry, Westsider, I have to comment on this. I do believe MadJack was right when he said, "this shooting was the result of an accidental discharge." http://swampbubbles.com/67-days-later-and-now-waiting-2-weeks

Here's the latest from the Blade: "The charges allege Sergeant Chavalia "did negligently" cause Wilson's death and "did negligently" injure her young son, but they don't state why he fired his gun at the mother and child in the first place."

I had my doubts that even that much would ever happen.
