Lawyer: Woman Forced to Remove Nipple Rings at Airport

Thursday, March 27, 2008

March 27: Mandi Hamlin, right, demonstrates what she was asked to do by the TSA during a news conference in L.A. with her attorney.

LOS ANGELES — A Texas woman who said she was forced to remove a nipple ring with pliers in order to board an airplane called Thursday for an apology by federal security agents and a civil rights investigation.

I think this is awful. In the article it says the woman had the right to show the jewelry but they wouldn't let her do that. I've traveled without removing any of my jewelry. I guess I think that where you wear it should be up to each individual and not up to the discretion of the government.

I was so disgusted when I read this. While I'm all for keeping people safe on a plane these TSA agents so obviously went way to far. They should be out of a job.

That if left unchecked the govt.... this time the TSA will abuse their power at every opprotunity. The rule is you must comply or miss your flight. Absoluetly ridiculous. That travel has come to this. Even something simply like screening a passenger is beyond the grasp of most govt agencies.

Makes you feel safe doen't it ?

possess a woman (or man) to get nipple rings?

kooz, probably the same thing that possesses a man to get a Prince Albert.
(Not a new thing, either - The notion of an aristocratic European past of body piercing enjoys widespread appeal. Hans Peter Duerr argues in Dreamtime that nipple piercing became popular in fourteenth century Europe. There is evidence, both anecdotal and photographic, that nipple piercing was practiced in Europe during the late nineteenth century and in the early twentieth century, but it was not a common practice..)
From this list of various types of piercings (from a 'time to heal' chart), nipple piercings are tame.

I personally dislike body piercings & tattoos, but to each his/her own I guess - whatever floats their boat. (Some say it increases satisfaction, others say not so much.)

Is it just me, or does she look like the exact opposite of someone you would expect to be wearing nipple rings? lol

sarah, I thought the same thing. I hope she sues the airline though.

Not a foxy-enough lady to be wearing that stuff, I'll agree. I heard that they are now allow such people through the cattle stalls after visual examinations.

the government has learned from reliable sources that women are being recruited to have breast augmentation in which hangrenades are being implanted and the rings when pulled will detonate the grenades. So we have to watch out for these booby-traps.

i've heard that! it's true it's true! :)

Nothing much would surprise me anymore, but I ask that you prove that.
