Kaptur brings 19 million to the Saudi Arabia of Wind

Need a favor in Washington? You could do worse than asking Marcy Kaptur for help.

The congresswoman, a Toledo Democrat, had 10 appropriations earmarks benefiting Erie and Ottawa counties in the omnibus budget bill that President George Bush signed into law. The total value of the earmarks is $19 million.

Appropriations bills the House passed in 2007 included many earmarks inserted by Kaptur, with 10 specifically aimed at helping Erie and Ottawa counties.

Nice to have friends in high places and it sure beats a bridge to "No Where".

Nice headline. But inaccurate, the $19 million figure is the total package--not the amount set aside for alternate energies. And the President signed it?? What was this conservative thinking?? Btw, who is "Swampbubbles"? Is this Chris Myers, or someone else?

But getting back to Kaptur's $19 million, isn't this just a continuation of Reagan's supply side economics?

Is me. I use that account when I post stories without editing. The title is not misleading because the area Kaptur calls the Saudi Arabia of Wind is the area that got the 19 million dollars of our money.

But---you edited the title, right?

Do you think the money for fishery restoration has anything to do with "winds that sweep in from Lake Erie"?

Nice try.

did I say I don't change the titles?

And where is the money going to?
"Kaptur often refers to northern Ohio as the "Saudi Arabia of wind."

So our money is going to projects in the region Kaptur calls the Saudi Arabia of wind.

"$3.2 million to develop alternative energy projects, such as wind turbines or solar energy, at Camp Perry and the Air National Guard base at the Toledo airport. The money adds to the $7.1 million Kaptur secured for the same projects in the 2006 and 2007 budgets."
"*$499,220 to restore corroded water mains in Ottawa County."
Seems like a proper use of monies?
Alternative energy is seen as a boon to the Northwest Ohio area.

what's the problem?

until the public demands that it change.
Congress should vote on each expenditure separately.
This spending is out of control.

Many didn't vote in the last election because they were unhappy with spending. The President's polls have not gone up despite success in Iraq, Congress is now at it's lowest since the '06 election. The only thing that hasn't changed is spending is still out of control.

I would say the spending and economy are the two biggest drags on their poll numbers. So the nation is telling them but I don't think they're listening.

I’d like to see any Republican candidates that are running against Marcy say they will not bring a dime back to NW Ohio.

I’m throwing down the gauntlet.
