Kaptur votes against Ethics Office, on antiNAFTA taskforce, against secret sessions, and worried left out of budget process

*Ethics Office
The House ended up voting 229-182 to create an Office of Congressional Ethics that could initiate its own probes of House of Representatives members. Republicans and Democrats would each appoint three people from outside of Congress to serve in the office.

All Ohio Democrats voted for the plan, except for Toledo's Marcy Kaptur, who voted against it, and Tubbs Jones, who voted "present." Tubbs Jones said she wanted to stay neutral because of her Ethics Committee position.

*antiNAFTA Panel
A Burnaby MP has joined an international campaign to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Peter Julian, NDP MP for Burnaby-New Westminster, announced this week he will join politicians in the U.S. and Mexico in lobbying their governments to rebuild the agreement. The task force wants to see NAFTA renegotiated under a fair-trade model that protects workers and the environment.

Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and Mexican Senator Yeidckol Polevnsky - will be watching the U.S. election closely.

*Left Out of Budget Process
Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), a senior member of the appropriations panel, said she had received no information on the proposal to halt earmarks. She expressed hope that Pelosi would open up the decision-making process as she did many times during her first year as Speaker.

“I’ve always found her very consultative so I hope she wouldn’t leave out the Appropriations Committee in those discussions,” she said.

*Against Secret Sessions:
Some Democratic lawmakers, such as Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) and Rep. David Scott (D-Georgia), questioned the timing and the motives behind the secret session.

Congressional ethics already are investigated. We've seen congresspeople forced to leave office because of those investigations. Perhaps Marcy was voting against redundancy or against slimeball Republican legislation that your two-paragraph post failed to illuminate. I believe her vote accounted for both. Chris, don't try to elicit responses from swampbubblers who don't know the difference between your two paragraphs and a well-reported, two-paragraph AP brief on what actually transpired. You really ought to be beyond that by now.

I'm not sure how thie above captioned measure could have been 'slimeball Republican legislation' since the measure passed with 229 votes.

There are only 202 Republicans in the House.

So then what was this uninformed and obviously personal rant against Chris all about?

Chris Myers posted-- "The House ended up voting 229-182 to create an Office of Congressional Ethics that could initiate its own probes of House of Representatives members. So this means Marcy voted with the Republicans? So....what's your stance on this Chris? Do you feel Marcy was right? Or that the Republicans were wrong?

a stance, just posting it.
