This gentleman was not given an interview by the Toledo Board of Education? Why not?

Did the white population get all upset when we had an african-american superintendent? Give me a break...getting sick and tired of some blacks using the race card to further their agenda.

"All evil and unhappiness in this world comes from the I-concept."

I don't know if the white population got upset or not. I know that I as a black person did not like the process that was used to appoint Dr. T.W. Eugene Sanders, (a black man) as the superintendent. The only thing I want is a fair and honest process and may the best win the appointment.

The only agenda I am attempting to further is to put a stop to TPS cancelling the future of black children.

because sometimes we get lost in the fight. I am a student at Start but I had to transfer out of my own district because my mom wanted something better for me then Scott. I really wanted to go to school with my friends but my parents said no. So here I am at Start. I have to get up earlier to get my bus and my friends all walk to school together. I really wanted to be a Bulldog because my Dad is a Bulldog. It was a family tradition. All of my cousins also go to Scott. The ones that are old enough. So please keep fighting for us. Maybe I can still graduate from Scott if all of this is over soon. Thank you.

What's that have to do with a black or white superintendent? What ever happened to equal opportunity, where employment isn't based on skin color but rather qualifications and relevant experience?

One of the final four candidates for this position was black. Unless the Toledo Blade had a photo of the wrong man. Creg Williams was selected as one of the final four and he withdrew his name. So the implication that it was all white men and that is somehow the fault of the screening process is not really a fair claim to make.

I don't think race should matter, unfortunately it seems to but it should be the best candidate over all not the best white, or the best black or the best hispanic...

We don't remember days only moments...

fashion....

The statement keeps being made in a variety of ways.

But the bottom line is we seem to all be concerned the the process of interviewing and selecting a new Superintendent for our schools will not be FAIR - and unbiased.

I too - am greatly concerned. I want someone who's going to advocate for the kids. ALL of the kids.

First and always. Given the things I've seen in Toledo - I too am suspicious on the topic of bias....watching.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

I have never raised the issue of black man/white man. I have raised the issue of Dr. Murry not being considered after presenting his resume, a resume that I consider to be over and above satisfying the requirements for superintendent of TPS. For those who raise the issue of Dr. Murry not ever holding a position of superintendent, Mr. Foley has also not been a superintendent.

a resume that I consider to be over and above satisfying the requirements for superintendent of TPS

Maybe the screeners just didnt think he was as qualified as you do. I imagine they have a set of standards that they go by?

First, I know Earl Murray, but did not view his resume.

My questions go directly to the process. If, as I presume the Board members know, Dr. Murray has support within the community and he applies, why not just add him - and any other local candidate who meets the MINIMUM qualifications - to the interview list. The Board wouldn't have had to pay for any travel for any of them and, in giving the interview, could counter some of the criticisms that are obviously arising from their exclusion.

This was not a smart decision on behalf of the board...

What I thought I said! At least that was what I was trying to say.

I didnt mean to sound like i was critisizing Dr. Murray. But after reading the other posts about the selection process, isn't it the same company that gave us that idiot that finally left for cleveland? If thats the case then i definantly agree that the process is flawed.

search firm Pro-Act. Robert Torres and Darlene Fisher voted against Pro-Act being the ones to do the search but were out voted by the coalition of "Three for Children", Deborah Barnett, Larry Sykes and Steve Steel.

After having the last search, which produced Dr. Eugene Sanders, corrupted by Pro-Act why would anyone (TALC) vote to have them back again?

Torres and Fisher tried to stop this train wreck but couldn't because they were not a majority. Barnett, Sykes and Steel were so they drove the train, hence Pro-Act.

I was at the meeting when the 3-2 vote took place to hire the SAME firm that hired Dr. Sanders, outside of the vetting process - OUTSIDE of the pay scale and I could just plainly and simply not believe what I was seeing.

On this line of thought if you hire a mechanic to replace your alternator for 164.00 and he replaces the muffler, charges you $370.00 and kicks you in the ass on your way out - you HIRE HIM AGAIN?

Something hugely wrong with that move.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

I would guess that's a good question for the BOE.

After looking over his resume, I note that Mr. Murry has a distinct lack of experience as superintendent. Considering Mr. Murry has a PhD, his cover letter is poorly written. I thought it odd that Mr. Murry

How is having a white, or should I say non-black, superindent going to cancel the future of black children?

This is a paid political announcement.

"I don't know if the white population got upset or not."

You don't? Was there any mass group sending out press releases? Was there any major protests? I know I didn't see any. So the answer I'd deduce would be no they didn't get upset.

"The only agenda I am attempting to further is to put a stop to TPS cancelling the future of black children."

Wow we think so similar but I'd say the only agenda I would attempt to further is to put a stop to TPS cancelling the future of our children. Race shouldn't matter when it comes to promoting the education of the young.

As a whole I'd say I wouldn't care who was TPS's superintendant as long as they are 1. qualified 2. fairly appointed 3. willing to deal with a difficult board. Deal with all of it's members and not just a select few.

And finally I don't care what the race is of the new Superintendant. It is a non-issue to me as long as they are qualified.

it takes the input of another to crystalize an idea...

Presuming the screeners actually cared about who applied.......

Some are saying that the final choices were set so that Mr. Foley could get it.

What is odd is Mr. Williams makes it to the final 4 then abruptly withdraws. One scenario could be, he was put on the list to pad the list with candidates, but he never thought he would make it to the final. When he did, he knew he had to get out of it. Actually Mr. Williams is quite a fine candidate and I was sad to see him go. Regardless his abrupt departure is strange and should signal something.

I know Dr. Murry. He was my adviser and teacher when I studied at UT for my first ed degree. The board decided to waste our money on flying in Dr. Purcell, who was a poor candidate from the start and an utter waste of the many thousand we spent on her interview. Dr. Murry is heads and shoulders over her and many of the other candidates. While I don't know if he could get the final job, he could have easily made it as a finalist and I doubt he would drop out.

In my opinion, him not making the initial list and Dr. Purcell making it, says a lot about whom actually got to decide who to interview.

yes

it's the same company...
