How will you vote on the 3/4% income tax renewal?

I can't imagine this has a snowball's chance in hell of making it. It should force things to a head as well as far as the city finances. Time to pay the piper.....think our good ol' boy network will all stick around and go down with the ship or flee?

When does this actually come up for a vote again?

...for March 4th. If it doesn't pass then, it will be on the ballot in November.

It will pass because the tried and true methods of making sure it passes will be used.

We will face cuts in services, etc.

What the plan to sell the re-authorization of the tax is a plan that takes into account the number of foreclosures, job losses more layoff's at auto makers announced, people leaving the city and the resulting loss of revenue from the 3/4%.

Cut the crap! Time to run it lean and mean. Guess the Fink will find out the hard way what we think of his stupid flowers, signs, and top heavy management style.

There is a lot of suspicion about what is being done with tax monies mostly because of the in-your-face attitude of the present City Administration. Projects that appear to require no bidders, the appearance of blatant disregard for City, State and Federal Laws, the appearance of spending tax payer dollars on frivolous projects makes most of us uncomfortable about renewing anything. The men and women running the third most livable city in the world will soon find out how much clout the voters have. What got me really stirred-up was when the Administration failed to accept that us voters didn't want to pay for COSI. Their attitude was that our votes don't count because we the voters don't know what's good for us. If a new Administration is on the 22nd floor in April, I'll vote for the renewal.

But I'll ask anyway because I'm curious: What city projects are or appear to be awarding sole source contracts?

You are right. I am not going to give you a straight answer and you know why.

Since that is highly unlikely, does this mean we can count on your vote against 3/4 % tax to send a message to these clowns?

I will not be voting for the renewal of the 3/4% tax.

The city will run a campaign of doom and gloom targeting seniors who no longer pay the 3/4% income tax , who are more likely to vote in a March primary and who will not see a reduction in their income as a result of it's passage.

My guess...it will pass.

what else can we expect as far as the city's "propaganda?"

The 3/4% "Temporary" tax has been in place for 25 years. This is not my definition of "Temporary". In my opinion, It should be voted down by no less than 90%. It's time to let the "Leadership" know we expect quality results for what we sacrifice in the name of the "City". All they want to do is spend foolishly with money our great grandkids haven't earned yet. Cutting them off at the ATM will increase their creativity.

NO! on the renewal. There're pissing away more money than they can use. If they can send ten cops in to bust some smokers, then they don't need any more money.

...and that Toledo, without a Chrysler/Dodge dealership, has to spend money in another community. Deal or no deal.

"Forty Dodge Chargers are being leased from Charlie's Dodge in Maumee for about $350,000 each year for three years. After the third year, the city will buy the cars for $1 each."

So for the life of this lease, Toledo will be spending $26,250 on each car, then buying the whole fleet of cars for $40, with at LEAST 250,000 miles on each car.

Another million dollar deal FOR Chrysler.

Now, if I can recall cleary, didn't Carty screw over a bunch of Northenders on Stickney for this Jeep plant? You would think Carty would have some clout with Chrysler after that debacle. I mean, come on, this IS a Chrysler community, right?

Guess he ain't using it, judging from the prices. Guess money grows on trees for him.

Drats to that smoking ban, eh Mikey? Shooting yourselves in the feet over a group of people that would have paid for those cars, and not at a $100 fine at a time.

I do what our police force to have new cars and good equipment but I also don't want to see my tax dollars spent on paying someone to clean up the Mayor's dog crap or take him for walks or having the police out giving tickets to smokers. I'm also still a bit chapped off about paying that garbage fee.
I really don't see myself voting for this again without an awfully good reason put across by the city.
