How Effective Can Konop Be Now

Following todays commissioners meeting and the announcement by Oregon mayor Marge Brown that she will run against Konop when he is up for re-election, how effective can Konop be as a commissioner? What experience did he bring to county government when elected in the first place? Brown certainly has the gravitas, with years as a mayor and the growth of Oregon to show as her accomplishments. And as a bonus she is not from Toledo so the other suburbs may feel they would now have a voice.
Konop was combative, argumentative, and quite rude to both Matt Sapara and Rob Robinson today, two men with years more experience at economic development than he has. His questioning of Mr. Bilger on marketing qualifications is priceless since Konop himself had no experience in running county government or any business when he sought his present job.
He has cut himself off from the other two commissioners and is in effect a lame duck at this point waiting for Marcy to call and give him a job.

I can't believe that Fred is complaining that an elected official doesn’t want to send tax payer money. You’ve had something up your ass about the guy from the beginning. What is your issue?

Lucas County is a wreck, LCIC has already spent $300K this year and now gets another $200k. For what? They might as well be pissing it away at the ESM…

Great questions Sensor! I will be getting the answers tomorrow when both Matt Sapara, and Rob Robinson appear on the show at 7:30am. My "issue" with Konop is that he has/had no experience when elected to his current seat. He ran in another county, failed, and moved up here where the terrain was a little friendlier. Lucas county is a wreck and you might look at what party has been running it for 30 years to see why. Thanks for the input though, keep up the good work.

So, you don't have a problem with what he's done. Just how he got there, and what party he belongs to? Stay classy San Diego

here is something to think about. On some issues, he is highlighting the dirty politics that has gone on in the county and even has repeated some stuff that Maggie Thurber has said about how things operate in commissioners office, especially against Pete Gerken. While his approach to the LCIC does not seem so good, I think he is verifying some of the trash that goes on under Gerken's watch. People could say that Maggie was marginalized, but if you have a second person, of the same party as the other commissioners saying some similar things, there is much more there than meets the eye. Who knows maybe he will be running for Congress in 10 and Marge won't get the chance.

Well actually Chris I do have more than just that one "issue" but I try to save some things for on air weekday mornings from 5:30-9a on 1370 WSPD (shameless and embarassing plug)

will that guy from the LCIC board be on tomorrow?

As it says in my reply to Sensor's great question, 7:30a Wednesday.

Doh!

Isn't Marge Brown pretty much on the same level as Opal Covey? A fruit loop who doesn't have a chance in hell at getting elected to county-wide office.

Marge Brown is less Opal Covey and more Boss Hog.

I get traffic and weather on the 10s, goofballs reading sports scores, shameless pitches for advertisers, promos for Brian in the afternoon, endless produced commercials, and, every half-hour, 30 or 40 seconds of local nutjobs calling in to share their wisdom. What could be more illuminating than that?

Don, thanks for listening. This isn't the same Don Wert who played for the Tigers is it? That would be a coup for the show.

Hand-picked by JR Block is my personal issue, but what else is new? And while I'd like to see someone from outside Toledo on there, it ain't gonna happen. Toledo has too many democrats and too many votes. It's why the rest of LC hates us and why they want no part of 'unigov'.
