Devices Enforce Cellular Silence, Sweet but Illegal

I read an article a few years back that told about churches down in Mexico who used such technology in their sanctuary's. They said they concealed them behind artwork and what all.

First off, I think that's a FANTASTIC idea. But I wouldn't conceal them at all - I'd put them right out in plain view with a sign that tells what the device is, what it's for, and that it will be activated during services and deactivated when they're over.

I'd do the same thing at movie theaters.

That way people who have cell phones and pagers for a legitimate reason (emergency personnel, people on call for work, etc,) would know the situation, and be able to plan around it.

While I find people on cell phones constantly annoying, no one has the right to keep me from having a conversation in public. I don

... to contact their love ones. Since we don't know when the next "incident" will occur I think it rather foolish to deny people access when it might most be needed. It might a good idea for terrorists, though, since they would be able to deny communication to their victims.

at Moonbat central. Let's see, who's on first...

From SensorG: I don

You can't zap someone's conversation on a commuter train, or anywhere else, just because they sound like a Valley Girl and say 'like' all the time.

A movie theater, school, concert, play, anyplace where you're expressly asked (told) to turn your phone off because it's policy? Different story.

You feel that you should be able to site next to me at a restaurant and smoke, but I can

As much as I"d have loved to see that girl's face when her phone died (and it does sound like fun), it's still wrong to end somebody's phone call - regardless of where they are talking. If it's in a movie theater or restaurant, then it's up to the employees to do so. Maybe the better solution would be for that guy to get on his cell phone & talk really, really, really loud right next to Valley Girl.

next time I'm in town I'll buy the first round. Maybe the second as well.

You know, I was thinking about this. Suppose you are one of those who don't like the people around you to smoke, and suppose you're out somewhere, a bar, a casual diner, what ever. You have this little device that no one will find out about, and the device prevents tobacco from burning in a 30 foot radius when it's turned on.

Now then. You could ask the patrons around you not to smoke, or you could just press the button and watch the fun as cigarettes fail to light. No one can smoke. Eventually, they move away from you - outside or something, in order to smoke.

You're telling me you'd never push that little button gratuitously every so often?

Even if I were a non-smoker, NO I would not push the button.

Ok so the 20 something was having a BA conversation. How did the guy know that someone 10 feet away wasn't on the phone talking to their doctor, their boss, the babysitter because their child was sick or injured?
I wonder how much he'd like it if someone zapped him that same way.
Blocking cell phone use in a theater or church is one thing. Secretly zapping people on the street is just plain wrong.

You disparaging my manhood? Because I proved my manhood twice last night with your wife and 3 times last week with your mom. Neither one is good looking, but they get the job done.

Who are you railing against here, Sensor?

Billy, Madjack Madison, or Darth Vader (orginal poster)?

Certainly can't be me.

I don't intend to get one.
I had no viewpoint one way or the other, just posted it to provoke comment, which I apparently succeeded at.

was not intended by me to have any relation to smoking. If you read it as such, that's your perogative. I take neither side on the issue, I merely thought it was interesting-just shows you what life is like in the electronic age.

SensorG, I think you need another drink at the bar to find your happy place. Perhaps you need a double, perhaps I need one too!

What would have been really funny would have been had he got on his phone and started talking really loudly in the same valley speak :

I'm not married.

what is this, 'Whose on First'?

Sensor was talking to Jacko.

I'm sure the right guy will come along. Keep hanging in there...

I was TRYING to respond to whoever asked me if I was going to buy one of these. I tried to post it immediately after their comment, but it didn't go there-a common phenomonon here. Don't blame me for the software being worthless.

... the comment you wish to respond to. I would like to be able to vote for more than one "choice" in a poll, but some amenities take a lot more work than others to do.
