I've been seeing the promos for this segment on 13 ABC in the past week. Don't get me wrong, I am not a prude. Far from it, ha ha. But does anybody else think that this is just un-needed, trasy, tacky jounalism? I thought it was kind of "low" the way the whole thing was presented. Interested to hear others' thoughts...
but quite a few years ago, when I listened to him regularly for a time, he said: "The mainstream media has become tabloid journalism, whereas the tabloid media has went mainstream." I realized after thinking about that for a minute that he was 100% correct.

In World War 2 we fought the Nazis. Today we're afraid of cellphones, smokers, and cheeseburgers. It's about at the end, people.
They're looking for these "shock" stories to boost ratings. I don't know why we need a story about "friends with benefits." I could be wrong, but I thought everyone already knew what that was.
They're now promoting a segment on "huffing" for a high. It's very frightening for a parent to think their kids could be inhaling the cleaning supplies under the kitchen cabinet, so they run a story on it. I can honestly say that throughout high school and college I never knew anyone that "huffed" to get high. I do know several people who abuse alcohol, cocaine, marijuana, and prescription drugs, but I don't think a story on that will get quite the ratings that inhaling hairspray or kitchen cleaner will get.
No dead 'ho's with big hooters this week, 'Idol' has only just chosen it's contestants, Brittany, J-Lo and Angelina haven't done anything too trashy and the Blizzard's blown itself out.
Pickin's are slim.
was that we were watching AFV with the whole family, on from 8-9p.m., and one of the promos aired at 8:55- while my 8 & 7 year old were waiting for the end of AFV.
The promos this week have only referred to FWB but not actually explaining WHAT it is.
The 8:55 promo was way out of line. It was Lee Conklin saying "friends with benefits- sex with no strings attached, the story at 11"
Since when is *that* a story? And why does that promo air on a family show? Poor planning, IMHO.
I think that's what they were. My senior year somebody had them, I just wasn't into that. I don't even know if that's the same thing as huffing these things like computer dusters, I am pretty sure they were both inhalents though.
Nothing wrong with friends with benefits, especially when you have no emotion whatsoever.
"especially when you have no emotion whatsoever."
Now that's just sad.
It's all about the ratings. Try a detailed discussion of Middle Eastern politics and culture with emphasis on the war in Iraq between three or four experts on the situation. Imagine three college professors on the high side of middle age, all of whom are renowned experts on the Middle East. What do you think the ratings would be for a show like that? The average US household will switch to either Cops or Law & Order re-runs.
I hadn't really thought of it that way but you're right it was fairly inappropriate in that time slot. I don't know about the other channels because I pretty much stick to ABC but 13 is getting very annoying with the they they tend to beat things into the ground.
Maybe it's time to switch channels.
