Mayor plans 3-day Toledo shutdown to save money by halting nonessentials
Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner yesterday announced plans to shut down all nonessential government business for three days before the end of the year to help address the city's projected $10 million general operating fund deficit.
Mr. Finkbeiner said the move would save the city $1 million over all its funds - $300,000 of which would apply to the general fund.

Unspent capital improvements money to balance city budget
In addition to ordering three layoffs and shuffling seven employees into new positions yesterday, the Finkbeiner administration said it wants to use unspent 2008 capital improvement money to help balance the potential $7 million sinkhole in Toledo's general operating budget.

Mayor's plan for Toledo's mounting deficit
TOLEDO (WTOL) - The financial spreadsheet remains in the red for the city of Toledo and the mayor says he'll soon roll out his plan on how to balance the city's books.
"We know about increased costs, where the increased costs have come have come... fuel consumption, overtime and things like that," Finkbeiner says.
