Bill says 'tax' when Obama said 'not'

In the most contentious exchange of President Barack Obama’s marathon of five Sunday shows, he said it is “not true” that a requirement for individuals to get health insurance under a key reform plan now being debated amounts to a tax increase.

But he could look it up — in the bill.

Page 29, sentence one of the bill introduced by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont) says: “The consequence for not maintaining insurance would be an excise tax.”

WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats warned President Barack Obama on Tuesday that he sounded too much like George W. Bush when he declared this summer that the White House can ignore legislation he thinks oversteps the Constitution.

What a happy "first 100 days" gift! The Republican Party is in a state of disarray as Arlen Spector comes full circle in his career as Senator of Pennsylvania and returns to the Democratic Party..
To me he will always be known as the sexual harasser of Anita HIll along with Clarence Thomas.

Carty smells money. Part of the free Obama money is for Police. So, if a city rehires laid off Po-Po or has new Police hires for the city, the government will pay for it for so many years. Example, say Toledo has 635 police, the city then lays off 75. The city asks Obama for a grant to rehire those Police and then asks to hire 25 more new Police. The government says OK. Then the city gets the salary for 100 police officers paid for by the United States taxpayers not just by Toledo workers.

McCain supports loan guarantees for automakers

WASHINGTON -- Republican president candidate John McCain joined his Democratic rival Barack Obama in supporting efforts to give Detroit's Big Three automakers up to $25 billion in loan guarantees -- a move that boosts the prospects for passage considerably in September.

A newly formed conservative political group is spending $2.8 million to air the first tough general election ad attacking Barack Obama, questioning his relationship with a founder of the 1960s terrorist group Weather Underground.

Sens. John McCain, who was raised as an Episcopalian and attends a Baptist church, and Barack Obama, a Christian who had a public falling out with the fiery former pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ , appeared back-to-back on the same stage last night -- a televised platform -- to confront questions about their faith.

What a dream ticket! Obama and Edwards. This ticket will take care of the "working, hard working" "white" voter, that Obama couldn't attract and capture. :=)

A footnote: Support is growing in Democratic ranks for Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland as vice president. He would bring to the ticket maturity (66 years old), experience (six terms in Congress) and moderation (rated "A" by the National Rifle Association). He is very popular in Ohio, a state Republicans must carry to elect a president.

SAN ANTONIO It took many months and the mockery of "Saturday Night Live" to make it happen, but the lumbering beast that is the press corps finally roused itself from its slumber Monday and greeted Barack Obama with a menacing growl.

Hillary Clinton sought to skewer Barack Obama on the eve of critical voting in Ohio and Texas, pointing to a leaked memo purportedly showing that his campaign recently gave a "wink-wink" to the government of Canada that promises he has made to renegotiate trade deals need not be taken seriously.
