you really have a way with coming off like a crazy person.
there are numerous carcinogens in this world. We, the general public, have chosen to adopt them as necessary evils in order for convenience.
The smoking ban, IMO, was not promoted fairly. I believe that this ban was promoted with twisted 'facts', embellished numbers and a huge does of 'fear factor' type hype.
Unfortunately way too many people fell for it in the interest of 'public health' and therefore we have our current situation. I don't agree with it, and see it as a very dangerous precursor to further assaults on the liberties of Americans. I'm not sure just exactly how this all will play out in the long run, but I have learned that until you can prove that a particular piece of legislation is going to adversely effect those that voted it into place, the chances of change are slim. People have to realize (the hard way) that they have engineered their own demise before they wake up and start screaming, "What happened? I can't ? What kind of crap is that?"
The freedoms that we have enjoyed in the past (yes, smoking being one of them) are the foundation that built our current system of democracy. Unfortunately there are groups of folks that exercise the skill of fear-mongering and political schmoozing that throw their tantrums and then grin when they have been awarded a new 'benefit'.
I will continue to advocate for personal choice (on all levels), the adherence to common sense principles and a return to mutual respect and civility. I know that's some serious dreaming, but I am ever hopeful.
Too much to list????....for you, Starling, no way. Another epic 10,000 word post on bans, personal choices, Nazis, disputed studies, invalidated research, and any and all things in between in the offing. Too much is never enough. Someone should pay you by the word count
BTW, I'm saying this in good humor. I just can't take this all very seriously any more. I do admire your tenacity...in a perverted sort of way.
thomasjay & mccaskey - I didn't write that article, I simply posted it here for all of you to browse. And, I don't ever claim to be the brightest bulb in the box - but better brains than I have, wrote those articles & did the research. I posted it here to show that Hawaii has been very hard hit by the smoking bans, and they are prepared to fight back hugely. It's starting to look to me, like England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales & Hawaii (and N.Y., among others) are getting fed up, with calls for civil disobedience. At any rate - like it or not, that article speaks more truth, than not, which is far more than I can say for the bogus propaganda that the cancer & lung societies, WHO, et al have put out. Also - I believe there's a medical doctor on board who've put their input into those articles. They admit that they don't think smoking is good for you, do not advocate smoking - but are horrified at the lies being spewed out to push for smoking bans. Sounds crazy to you? The crap propaganda that people bought into is what sounds crazy to me.
That is an interesting turn of phrase. We should probably all do what is
