Ex-Mayor Ford announces he is undergoing kidney dialysis

i'm just going to quote my friend.....

This shocking and irresponsible to me. Yes , it is sad that the ex mayor is suffering like this. But why take a school board seat when there are very qualified candidates that he took this seat from ? And why deceive the voters and not come out with this info? He obviously cannot serve the public well when he gets four dialysis treatments per day. Or is the Toledo Democratic establishment so bent on holding off reform that they could not bear to see fresh faces on the board? Any comments?

...but there are just some that are more deserving of my sympathy than Jack, sorry.

Regarding the dialysis...

I have a family member who has been undergoing the same type of dialysis. (Self-administered, 4X a day)

I was extremely surprised at how much of his normal functioning he was able to maintain...it certainly wasn't the picture I had in mind of what dialysis was supposed to be like. (Guess I was thinking of the old school type of dialysis, where you had to go spend all day at a center.)

4X a day for 20 minutes a pop...my family member just goes into his room, plugs in, and does some reading/watches TV while the machine does its work.

Aside from that time, he essentially keeps up all of his normal functioning. Only 2 of his 20 minute treatments fall into what would be considered a normal workday...if you have the kind of job where you can build two 20 minute blocks into your schedule, it doesn't really need to interfere with your job at all.

Like I said, it was shocking to me to see how much of a relatively normal life my family member was able to maintain...not the picture of what I would have expected from dialysis at all.

(not saying that to defend JFo in any way...I don't care for him as a politician. Just trying to share my surprised observations about that type of dialysis.)

Teaches..writes a weekly column...now has a TV show...sits on umpteen boards...and he promises he will make the changes needed at TPS? Where will the time be? I agree with you littlered...I don't think Jack will have the time...I think he is on the board for his ego and not to do what is right...if he wanted to do what is right...he would be putting all of his effort into the TPS board activites.

First, we must remember that political differences are not worty of physical retribution. Financial maybe, but not poor health. My prayers to Mr. Ford for his health.
I do see the point of him being awfully busy to be effective going forward. I can't tell him what to do, but if it were me, I'd depart some of my obligations to better serve and protect my own health.

Mr. Ford had this condition well before the election. He says he will advocate for a diabetes group. This is laudable. But the school board duties will clearly be secondary in his schedule . There were younger and energetic candidates for this position. Political candidates have a higher standard of commitment and service.
Mr. Ford should resign and care for himself and the causes he cares about.

are our local version of the Clintons-or herpes. They just refuse to go away. Just HAVE to stay in the public eye. I cannot stand either one of them.
