buckeye express to enlist substantial fee increase on september 1

Customers of Buckeye Express will see as much as a $10-per-month rate increase for Internet service starting on September 1.

The company has developed a website giving a rather convoluted explanation as to why the rates are increasing--it has something to do with Netflix or YouTube or the government or something. (I always love when Buckeye blames the government. Especially since the Block family has been so active in promoting the liberal politicians that have inhabited the Northwest Ohio scene--FOREVER!)

For most customers of Buckeye Express, the increase will be $7 per month. There is a "fine print" addendum that indicates that if you have an Internet-only plan through Buckeye (i.e. you don't have any other service like cable television), your increase will be $10 per month.

This increase comes a little more than a year after Buckeye Express initiated a consumption plan that charges $10 for each 50 GB of use beyond your monthly allowance. That change in June 2012 forced a lot of businesses and heavy Internet users to find another provider.

Microsoft "Avoid Ghetto" GPS

Microsoft has developed a GPS with an "avoid ghetto" feature. Can you imagine the uproar that would have occurred if a company that wasn't run by a nerdy liberal would have introduced such a device? Thank god that Bill Gates' political leanings insulate him from ever being considered a "racist."

Hate Corporate Radio? Well Speak Up—the FCC Is Listening

Conservative radio talk show host Al Roney offered listeners a local perspective on WGY, an AM station in Latham, N.Y. That is, until the Clear Channel-owned station replaced Roney’s morning show with canned programming. In February, he was fired, and Glenn Beck’s nationally syndicated show—far less interested in life in Latham than Roney—took over his slot.

Digital Technology Gaining Momentum

Digital signage is still new as compared to other forms of marketing. Over the time period the picture and content quality is getting better as more advanced digital signage software are being used delivering better interactivity, brighter displays that ensures a better experience and hence a better relation between your business or service and the customer.

Google Actively Focusing On Android Application Development

The competition between Apple and Google is getting hotter. To stay in the game it is all about having greater market presence. The number of applications being developed by Apple is growing every month and it is estimated that mobile app sales would reach the figure of $15 billion in 2011.

Another reason to hate Microsoft

If you didn't already hate Microsoft, this may push you over the edge: "Security experts raised privacy concerns after a US National Security Agency official revealed that the Agency collaborated with Microsoft during the development stage of Windows 7. The revelation was made in a prepared statement by NSA information assurance director Richard Schaeffer, before the US Senate’s Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security, which operates under the Judiciary panel."

Bowling Green voters reject cell-phone ban for drivers

Wednesday, May 6, 2009 9:19 AM

BOWLING GREEN SENTINEL-TRIBUNE VIA AP
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Voters here have said no to a proposed ban on using hand-held cell phones behind the wheel.

The referendum on the ballot yesterday in Bowling Green would have outlawed talking or texting on a mobile phone while driving, except for hands-free devices. It failed by about 56 percent to 44 percent..

City Council member Robert McOmber proposed the idea and says he believes voters in his northwest Ohio community prefer a statewide ban, not a local one..

AT&T to start sending copyright warnings

NEW YORK - AT&T Inc., the nation's largest Internet service provider, will start sending warnings to its subscribers when music labels and movie studios allege that they are trafficking in pirated material, according to an executive.

The phone company thus joins other major ISPs that either go beyond legal requirements or interpret their duties under the law to mean that they have to forward such notices.

Cisco's great customer support

This morning I was actually impressed with Cisco systems and the responsiveness of their customer support. This past weekend I upgraded the network in my house and I am loving it, but one of the downsides is that my old Mac Powerbook can't connect to it. It has a 6 hr battery life and doing normal Web surfing on th 8 year old machine is not that bad of an experience. I had an old Cisco WiFi card laying around and knowing that I got it to work several years ago I thought I would give it a shot. Well I needed to download the drivers and went to Cisco's site.

Surprising today. Amazing tomorrow. It's GM

Got this e-mail today from GM. They are still working hard to change perceptions.

Dear Christopher,

Thank you for being a GM customer. There's been a lot of
discussion about the auto industry over the past few weeks,
and I want to make sure you know the facts about GM. This
is important because with all the media coverage of late
about our company and industry, it is evident that there is
much misinformation and many very dated perceptions being

Singapore's Former PM Lew Kuan Yew

I watched an interview by Fareed Zakaria with Lew Kuan Yew, the former PM of Singapore on CNN's GPS program at 1:00 PM today. I have to admit I was impressed with the man. Especially at the end when Zakaria asked him about what he attributed his longevity to. Some people just choose their parents wisely.

Gerkin asks $125k for Rocket Ventures

Commissioner Pete Gerken wants to award $125,000 to a for-profit organization, Rocket Ventures, in an attempt to jumpstart job creation in the county. "By contributing to the fund, the county would gain a stake in the companies, earning its money back and a profit if the start-ups grow or are acquired by larger firms, said Greg Knudson, the director of Rocket Ventures."
