SSOE Moves Up Two Spots in ENR's 'Top Ten Food Processing Firms' Survey
Major Food Clients Contribute to SSOE's Ranking
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Engineering News Record, one of the industry's primary news publications, ranked SSOE (www.ssoe.com) number four among the top ten food processing firms in the United States. The new ranking reflects an increase of two spots over the 2008 numbers. "We attribute this increase to our client focused philosophy," said Vince DiPofi, who leads SSOE's food group. SSOE has completed more than 500 food-related projects throughout the last five years.

Bowling Green voters reject cell-phone ban for drivers
Wednesday, May 6, 2009 9:19 AM
BOWLING GREEN SENTINEL-TRIBUNE VIA AP
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Voters here have said no to a proposed ban on using hand-held cell phones behind the wheel.
The referendum on the ballot yesterday in Bowling Green would have outlawed talking or texting on a mobile phone while driving, except for hands-free devices. It failed by about 56 percent to 44 percent..
City Council member Robert McOmber proposed the idea and says he believes voters in his northwest Ohio community prefer a statewide ban, not a local one..

AT&T to start sending copyright warnings
NEW YORK - AT&T Inc., the nation's largest Internet service provider, will start sending warnings to its subscribers when music labels and movie studios allege that they are trafficking in pirated material, according to an executive.
The phone company thus joins other major ISPs that either go beyond legal requirements or interpret their duties under the law to mean that they have to forward such notices.

Cisco's great customer support
This morning I was actually impressed with Cisco systems and the responsiveness of their customer support. This past weekend I upgraded the network in my house and I am loving it, but one of the downsides is that my old Mac Powerbook can't connect to it. It has a 6 hr battery life and doing normal Web surfing on th 8 year old machine is not that bad of an experience. I had an old Cisco WiFi card laying around and knowing that I got it to work several years ago I thought I would give it a shot. Well I needed to download the drivers and went to Cisco's site.
Surprising today. Amazing tomorrow. It's GM
Got this e-mail today from GM. They are still working hard to change perceptions.

Dear Christopher,
Thank you for being a GM customer. There's been a lot of
discussion about the auto industry over the past few weeks,
and I want to make sure you know the facts about GM. This
is important because with all the media coverage of late
about our company and industry, it is evident that there is
much misinformation and many very dated perceptions being
Singapore's Former PM Lew Kuan Yew
I watched an interview by Fareed Zakaria with Lew Kuan Yew, the former PM of Singapore on CNN's GPS program at 1:00 PM today. I have to admit I was impressed with the man. Especially at the end when Zakaria asked him about what he attributed his longevity to. Some people just choose their parents wisely.
Gerkin asks $125k for Rocket Ventures
Commissioner Pete Gerken wants to award $125,000 to a for-profit organization, Rocket Ventures, in an attempt to jumpstart job creation in the county. "By contributing to the fund, the county would gain a stake in the companies, earning its money back and a profit if the start-ups grow or are acquired by larger firms, said Greg Knudson, the director of Rocket Ventures."

The Clean Energy Scam - lead story in Time mag this week
From his Cessna a mile above the southern Amazon, John Carter looks down on the destruction of the world's greatest ecological jewel. He watches men converting rain forest into cattle pastures and soybean fields with bulldozers and chains. He sees fires wiping out such gigantic swaths of jungle that scientists now debate the "savannization" of the Amazon.

Ohio health dept to spend $60,000 to study tobacco habits of gay teens
I have to wonder WHY? I assume they smoke for the same reasons non-gays smoke (only perhaps more so, since they deal with intolerance more than most do) - stress, calming effect, pleasure, etc. To spend a crazy amount of money on something like this for to get obvious results is aburd. One big step would be to be more tolerant & understanding of gays.
