What positions are up?

are the ones that I know of. Rob Ludeman won't run again because he is term limited now. Larry Sykes and Deborah Barnett are both at the end of their run. It is very important that we watch, as a community, to make sure that these two don't pick their replacements if they do not run. We cannot afford a continuation of an agenda that resulted in massive budget deficits, school closings and staff layoffs.

Lisa Sobecki is apparently running for a school board seat. That gives me a HUGE concern because while she's the head of a parent organization I saw that there is a very close involvement between she and Larry Sykes at the Claudia Cooper trial.

Her testimony was in conflict with what Larry testified had happened , (she was HIS witness and shot him out of the water with a different version of what happened), and just the interaction between the two of them caught my attention. He handed of his glasses to her in a very natural gesture and they were very involved in conversation on a number of occasions. They obviously know each other from school activities, but the personal nature of the communication between the two of them caused me to have concern.

On the other hand, they obviously hadn't rehearsed testimony prior to the Cooper trial since their accounts were in conflict.

I just want to watch very carefully and make sure that the next school board members we pick are interested in bettering the district. Not their own political standing.

Katie, have you considered running for a seat? We could definatly use a watchdog like you on the school board! (I'd vote for ya in a hot new york minute!)

Nope, I haven't considered it. I'll tell you a little secret...(shhh,,,come closer)

With a handful of exceptions I do not like politicians. And many times I have heard, 'oh, she used to be such a nice person', or 'he started out with such good intentions'.

I don't know exactly what happens between being a nice person with good intentions that processes someone into those I see in many political positions. But I don't want it to happen to me!

It's like marriage. I can take a pretty ordinary nice guy, walk by an alter with him and he turns into an asshole. I don't know exactly what happens, but I am firm in the idea that it is not for me :-)

Someone told me the other day that Lynn Olman may be a candidate for Mayor of Maumee. I have no collateral verification of that.

The Lucas County Educational Service Center Governing Board has two seats up for election this year. Current incumbents of those two seats are Karen Krause and Randy Dixon. Johnny Hildo of Toledo City Paper has written about the possibility of Karen Krause seeking election this year to Toledo City Council. Randy Dixon has stated that he will not seek re-election.

Roland's Ramblings

Terry Shankland was seen circulating petitions for City Council.

Vallie Bowman-English is around at events for Clerk of Courts.

Michael Goulding makes no secret his run for judge.

Johnny Hildo-who I love by the way-has said Caroline Eyre may run for School Board as well as Jack Ford, Lisa Sobecki and I believe a guy by the name Richard Brown may be interested in running. Hildo is encouraging Steve Steel to run for city council.

The Blade reported that Ludeman's daughter may want to run for City Council.

I'm glad he's running again. He's a fairly unique person and I think he rounds out our democratic selections at the polls.

In stark contrast, the idea of Ford being on the TPS BOE makes me physically ill. We don't need another polished capo continuing our political domination. "Capolitician"?

Mike Bell has expressed interest in the open council seat if he dosent leave. Also look out for the local dems to endorse a slate of young new candidates in select council districts.

I was at the board of elections today dropping off voter registrations from a local high school, so I decided to look at who took out petitions for races. While taking out petitions is a sign of interest, turning them in with the right number of signatures and filled out correctly assures you get on the ballot.

I did not see any more signatures although I did not go through with a fine tooth comb.

Chris sez: "has said Caroline Eyre may run for School Board as well as Jack Ford, Lisa Sobecki"

JACK FORD???!!!! You are joking - puleaz say you are joking.

I have spoken to him several times in the last month or so and he fully intends to keep his seat. With the budget issues that are before council he has been a little busy, not to mention the issues I've tossed at him. He will run - and I'll vote for him.

Joe is not always in the paper, but I can tell you that he is one of the most encouraging councilmen I've ever known when it comes to working with local businesses and trying to help them.

I guess some people try to hijack topics here just as they do on Toledo Talk. Oh, well, perhaps they are just spoilers or control freaks or perhaps not. To those type of folks I ask that you please start your own message threads.
Let's see if we can return to task here. As a reminder:

I heard he was considering a run for District two as well.

The Lucas County Elected Officials Directory shows who holds what position until when. Consequently, the directory provides a breakdown of every office in the Lucas County area up for election this year.

Has any one heard the name Randy Dixon mentioned as a possible replacement via gubernatorial appointment for retiring Lucas County Juvenile Court Judge James Ray?

...is often bandied about when it comes to judicial vacancies. I expect we may also hear Sam Nugent's name as well...

That's an interesting comment about the Juvenile Court judgeship, Maggie.

I had coffee this afternoon with a fella who speculated on a few other names as well for the Juvenile Court position. His other observations included that Judge Ray had just been re-elected to this position, that the Governor has pledged judicial appointments will not be partisan with recommendations by a committee rather than a political party, and that it is not unusual for a municipal court judge to move over to a county spot because it pays better.

HELP WANTED
We need two good candidates for election to the Lucas County Educational Service Center Governing Board this year. What has been happening on that Board is not dissimilar to what has been transpiring on the TPS Board. The unfortunate thing is that the LCESC Board has not been receiving the media exposure as has the TPS Board that at least helps to make the Board accountable and responsible. The majority on the LCESC Board has been acting in such a way as I consider being nonfeasance, misfeasance, and malfeasance and has been ignoring its own policies which are correlated to Ohio Revised Code, etc. Also, I believe the current President of that Board, Karen Krause, has acted in an individual capacity in such a way as to represent the entire Board without having the consent of the Board.
The Lucas County Educational Service Center itself provides many excellent programs and services. I am a strong supporter of the ESC.
However, the Board as a body politic under its current President Karen Krause and Vice President Joan Kuchinski is not following its own policies and by-laws, might be in violation of Ohio Revised Code, seems to neglect adequate and proper oversight, and overall does not appear to be accountable or responsible.
That

I read over at Glass City Jungle that Angela Wallington Zimmann has announced her candidacy for the Governing Board of the Lucas County Educational Service Center.

There are two seats up for election this year on each of Washington Local Board of Education and the Governing Board of Lucas County Educational Service Center. Candidacy requirements for these positions are as follows.

Nomination of candidates for Washington Local Board of Education and for Governing Board of Lucas County Educational Service Center is by nominating petition (R.C. 3513.254, 3513.255).

The term for both boards is four years, commencing 1/1/2008 (R.C. 3313.09).

Candidate Qualifications are as follows:
Residency Requirement: In the territory comprising the district (R.C. 3.15, 3313.01)
Minimum Age: 18 years, as of the date of the general election (OH Const. Art. V

All school boards and municipalities throughout Ohio have elections this year.

What??!! Nothing from Joe Birmingham yet??? Interesting.
As a resident of Toledo City Council District 6, I am extremely interested in the candidates for that particular position.

Working with local businesses is all well and good and I am not opposed to that, but I am more interested in a councilman that works with the residents of the district and tries to help the citizens.

As an aside, when the heck is our district councilman going to raise some cane over the blightful eyesore and environmental health hazard formerly known as North Towne Mall???

Sit and spin, Hansen. You're the one who brought up the eyesore on the border, and when you didn't get the lilly-white liberal answer you were trolling for, you went into snit mode.

JB's not going to do anything about it, given the past behavior of the city council when it comes to such properties. Northtowne (now allegedly called Lakeside Centre) is just a big dangling carrot that will continue to be passed from one land speculator to another in hopes of being the owner at the time when (1) the public wants to go there again, and when (2) the city council, county commission, state and federal government open the coffers and lavishly pour subsidies over the site.

As for current operations, I keep hearing that some automotive light-manufacturer is going to setup shop in one of the parts of the main building, and will employ at least 30 people ... but as is the usual for Toledo, that never shows any progress.

At any rate, what does it matter to you? You don't own the property. It's none of your business, and anything that happens on the property will happen too far from the nearest residences to cause any problems. Such a site is almost entirely reserved for a long series of commerical flips and it's only your task to make sure that YOUR tax money (and MINE) isn't stolen to smooth out any of the frequent bumps in those shenanigans.

Well, excu-u-u-use me. I guess I will go back under a rock now, mind my own business, and not be concerned about the community or world around me.
Thank you for reminding me of my place.

... now, don't be that way, Rollie.

I'm just wondering what you actually expect the public to do about Northtowne. Note that be qualified as "sensible", your answer cannot contain any reference to tax money of any kind. Northtowne is private property and the owners are conducting private enterprise, which the public is not responsible to pay for.
