...to be asked:
1. whose responsibility was it to ensure that the notices of charter committee meetings be publicized? often times, administrative staff are responsible for sending out such notices - not the volunteer chairman of such committees. The answer to this question determines whether or not Irish acted improperty regarding his chairmanship of the committee.
2. should political activity have a positive/negative impact on your ability to serve on a public committee - or should it be separate from such service?
Personally, I think that the respective chairmen or representatives from all political parties should be members of the charter committee, and such membership should be based upon the position held within the party and not by the individual. This is common in many public committees.
But it appears that there are many vacancies on this committee, so there's an opportunity to make sure the committee is reflective of the community and doesn't result in a one-sided perspective of what our city charter should be...
The mayor is not trying to separate himself from Irish, at least out in public. I just saw Carty at the Polish Festival with John Irish.
Does it really matter though?
It doesn't make any difference who is on the committee. As long as Czarty is in office, they will pick and choose at their own will which charters they will create and which ones they will comply with.
Folks, we got own version of Saddam Hussien in the Mayor's Office. Czarty has to go before he does so much damage that Toledo won't have enough money left to do anything.
Well, when confronted with accusations from all quarters he dodged and weaved.
He has a long history of being more of the problem, as some would say, then being part of the solution.
What does he bring to the table for the Committee. A former Chairmanship tainted in scandal?

... that getting an answer to your question would be a good thing, as well. But 'what does he bring to the table for the Committee' should be the question asked of ALL the members of the committee...
