Does anyone remember Dyngus Day?

Does anyone remember taking part in Dyngus Day in the old north end, now referred to as the "Polish International Village?"

When I was a kid the Monday and Tuesday after Easter was called Dyngus Day. The way it worked, was that on Monday, the boys would run around the neighborhood throwing eggs at the girls with Tuesday being the opposite when girls threw eggs at the boys.

Apparently, that was not the traditional Dyngus Day that was celebrated in Poland (see the Wikipedia link above). An older gentleman that lived two doors down from me, Neighbor John, told me that they would have never celebrated that day by throwing eggs because that would be wasting food and would be a sin.

Instead, he said, the men used to walk to their neighbor
