The terms of the new UAW contract and Chrysler LLC's subsequent announcement that more buyouts would be coming sealed his decision to retire sooner rather than later, said Dan Petersen, a 56-year-old Chrysler worker from Curtice, Ohio.
"This is what I was waiting for," said Petersen, who has spent 37 years at a Chrysler machining center near Toledo after growing up on a family farm in rural Ohio.

Petersen had been thinking about retiring even before the contract was signed. He and his wife, Ruth, have three grown children -- one a school teacher, another studying to be an aircraft mechanic and a third just starting college.
